Inside the Mind of Jamie Hewlett 25 years of works, from Gorillaz to The Suggestionists From the legendary Tank Girl to live-action animations with Gorillaz , a Chinese contemporary opera to an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, artist Jamie Hewlett is one of the most energetic figures of contemporary pop culture . With influences ranging from hip hop to zombie slasher movies, Hewlett emerged in the mid-1990s as co-creator of the zeitgeist-defining Tank Girl comic. With then-roommate Damon Albarn, he went on to create the unique cartoon band Gorillaz , a virtual pop group of animated characters, who have recorded five albums and mounted breathtaking live spectacles. Since then, Hewlett has continued to collaborate with Albarn on projects including an elaborate staging of the Chinese novel Monkey: Journey to the West by Wu Chengen, complete with circus acrobats, Shaolin monks, and Chinese singers. In 2006, he was named Designer of the Year by the Design Museum in London, and in 2009, Hewlett and Albarn won a BAFTA for their animated Monkey sequence for the Beijing Olympic Games. More recently, The Suggestionists , an exhibition of prints at the Saatchi Gallery in London, demonstrated an exciting new direction in Hewletts practice. This TASCHEN edition, Hewletts first major monograph, illustrates his thrilling creative journey with more than 400 artworks from the Tank Girl era through Gorillaz and up to the present day . Through stories, characters, strips, and sketches, we trace Hewletts exceptional capacity for invention and celebrate a polymath artist who refuses to rest on his laurels , or to be pigeonholed into a particular practice. Its about reaching that moment of pure ecstasy when a drawing just happens its like being in a trance Drawing is an escape from all the unnecessary things in life that get in the way of being free. — Jamie Hewlett Text in English, French, and German Review: Beautiful - This book is packed with Hewlett’s incredible work. Contains a lot of artwork
I was blown away by this book, the size of it in general was a lot bigger than I thought it would be and consisted of some incredible artwork by Jamie Hewlett as well as a few interviews with him. This is defiantly a perfect gift for anyone who is a fan of Jamie, Tank Girl or Gorillaz as it contains drawings of all of those and more. Well worth the price.

Amazing
I got this as a present for my brother as he loves Gorillaz and Jamie Hewlett, and he said it was the best present he's ever received. It's a very big thick book with loads of art from everything he's done, beautiful and lots of descriptions. It is in various languages as well (I think English and Dutch)

Gorgeous Gorillaz art but other surprises too!
This book is so lovely, and while I initially bought it for jamie’s Gorillaz work, I really enjoyed seeing his other art, too! The book is very big and heavy which is something you can’t help but love in art books...I definitely recommend for a present or just to get inspired when drawing!

Super livre !

A comprehensive overview of a great illustrator.
This book is an overview of the career of Jamie Hewlett, the creator of Tank Girl, and co-founder of the Gorillaz. This will give you an understanding of his skill as an illustrator, and his breadth. I was not only impressed by the quality of his work, but the variety of styles he employed. Highly recommended.
