Scrabble Junior

A great game for younger players. Teaches words and letters in a fun way. Good to play with the whole family.

For some reason our version did not have all the letters printed on one side, so we had to write them on ourselves. We play a variation where everyone picks one tile, places it and if their tile completes a word they get a point, this makes the game go a lot faster and keeps my 5 year old and 3 year old boys engaged, they have a lot of fun with this game and often choose to play it. It's helping no end with their letter recognition and the older one's reading. It's also nice knowing that when they're older we can flip the board and play a more advanced version! All the components are very well made and good quality.

Fun to play with the kids and a great way to teach spelling at the same time. Growing up in a bilingual household and living in the Netherlands, my kids can always use some extra help with their English. My one complaint is that it's the British version - we're American - so in the simple game mode some of the words are spelled 'wrong' for us!

A great game introducing a younger audience to Scrabble. The game by Mattel comes with the methods in which to play. The first is aimed at children aged 5-7 and links in words and pictures as a way of helping them improve spelling, and vocabulary. The 2nd game is closely linked with her adult version allowing them the chance to practice before moving on to the adults board. It is with a simplified scoring method that children are able to enjoy the game without it being overly difficult. The game is nog suitable for younger children due to the small parts which should be kept away from toddlers and babies for safety. My niece enjoys this game and as soon as her younger sister is old enough to play I have no doubt they will be able to have hours of fun on the days when they can't go out or maybe just don't want to.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this, but more than I got! I had junior scrabble as a child and the quality of board and pieces was much better. Also I thought it had whole words spelt out, the idea being that when the child has the right letters they can fill some in on the word - especially if they are trying to learn to spell, and learn vocabulary. If they don't have this already, it's hard for them to spell the word, even if there is a picture of a tap next to it. The one bug-bear when I was a child was the pieces getting knocked off their places. This is still an issue. The junior version needs something like the deluxe scrabble used to have - a plastic top with indents for the pieces to go so they don't get knocked off - and quality plastic pieces with some depth, not just flimsy cardboard ones. Not impressed. Our little one is nearly 5 and likes games but this didn't inspire him. Maybe ok for slightly older children, but 5 is the age when they need help learning their spelling and vocabulary. Also the pictures are not obviously 'next to' a particular word space and not clear enough. It's tat basically.

Bought as a Christmas present for my daughters (4 & 5) they both enjoy playing the side of the gameboard which already has the letters printed on it. Game will keep them interested as they learn how to spell more words due to the blank side of the gameboard. This still has simplified rules to the adult game though, so will be easy for younger children to play. Very pleased, good value for money.

I chose this based on the picture which shows the easier side of the board including all the letters of the word for the child to match up. That’s not what I’ve got. It only has some of the letters printed on the game and my only-just-5-year-old doesn’t know all the spellings. Weirdly, the instructions I got don’t match the board either. They are for the version pictured here, with all the letters of each word printed on. It also says age 6+ and then two columns later it says the easier game is for 5+. My daughter still enjoyed playing it this morning so I shan’t return it but I honestly expected better quality from Scrabble. Honestly not that impressed.

My 5 year old twins love this version of scrabble. The game board has 2 sides, and easy game for 5/6 year olds, and a harder one for 7 years upwards (for children who can spell). My kids love the easy game which helps them with their spelling and has a gentle competitive edge to it. Definitely recommended.

A great family game! Loved scrabble as a child and even more as an adult!

As expected

J'ai pris ce jeux pour l'offrir au fils d'une amie. Et surprise, il est en anglais. Quand ni les parents ni l'enfant parle anglais, c'est un peu problématique. Je suis super déçue.
