Works
Chose this brand over Nano for quiet operation and the dial. Worked out of the box. Low whirl sound typically but turns high pitched if used repeatedly back to back, over long hours. It operated quietly again after resting 48hrs. Simply turning dial sets temperature. The dial has resistance for easily setting the exact temperature. So no hypersensitive dial making temperature setting annoying. Press down on dial to set timer hour, press again to set minutes, press again to set, and done. It will beep angrily if removed from the water during operation. It will beep if not enough water present. Minimum and maximum water level marked on shaft. Beeps to notify set temp is reached. Beeps when countdown timer completes. No on/off switch. Unplug to turn off. The temperature is accurate according to an analog candy thermometer. The holder has an adjustable clamp to accommodate different wall thicknesses. User can't manually set appliance height in holder. Where appliance rests in holder determined by container wall height. Clear plastic cap on the appliance's bottom covers the fan. For unusual situations, there is the option to lean appliance inside the container (use the holder as a brace tied together with chord if enough space for extra stability) as a workaround. Or if using various sized jars, prop up small jars using small ceramic bowls like souffle/creme brulee dish. I've used small ferment stones. Imagine steel steamer baskets would work too. Bigger than expected and has some weight like a heavy duty product. No wifi. No directions on how to clean the metal parts. It does collect water around the dial from steam rising up from container if using high temperatures. Maybe a reason to use a dedicated container with a lid for sou vides. A dish cloth draped over top of pot works is a cheap fix. The black parts, including holder is covered by soft plastic which may melt in the future. New, so durability is to be seen. Satisfied with product so far.

Nice Precision Sous-Vide cooker, NO phone or network needed!
The Greater Goods Precision Sous-Vide immersion cooker is a nice addition to my kitchen. I've only given it a few runs so far (a 28 hour beef roast and a 4 hour set of pork chops), but it performed admirably both times. The device is high-powered (1,100 watts), so it brings your cooking bath up to temperature quite rapidly and can maintain the desired temperature easily. The controls are very simple (a single knob/button), and as a huge positive, it does NOT require a smartphone, WiFi network, or Bluetooth to be used effectively. While some other brands can be operated without a network, it is sometimes painful to configure cooking time, etc. without using another device (looking at you, Anova), and being able to set temperature and cook time easily from the front panel was a real joy. The device pretty much guides you through setting the temperature and cooking time, and with a final press of the control button, it starts cooking. The status display has a color indicator to show if it's bringing your vessel up to temperature, when it's cooking, and when your specified cooking time has completed. Since there is a calibration adjustment option available, I decided to check the cooking temperature against a high-quality and recently calibrated ThermoWorks instant read thermometer, and found the cooker was right on (within 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit) straight from the box. If I have to have something to quibble over, it's that once your desired cooking time is reached, the device sounds a periodic alarm to let you know it's done. Since I'm most often cooking things sous-vide that aren't going to be harmed by a little additional cooking (unlike oven baking/roasting, sous-vide cooked food isn't going "burn" if left in too long), I would have liked a way to silence or acknowledge the alarm, while letting it continue to cook (which in fact it does do, complete with a "count-up" timer showing the amount of time past your desired cooking time - so no worries about your cooked food unsafely cooling off if you're not around.) I found the easiest solution to get rid of the "done cooking" alarm was to just hit stop, add some additional cook time to the timer, then restart cooking. Certainly not a deal breaker, but it did make me have to deal with the device a little sooner than I would have if the alarm didn't keep beeping every minute or so. All in all, the Greater Goods Precision Sous-Vide cooker is a very nice product, seems to work well, is simple to operate, has enough power to bring your cooking bath up to temp and keep it there, and doesn't require other devices just to make it work. I like it! -Andrew Note: this is a true and honest review of the product after my real world testing. I was given this product by the manufacturer to review.

When using sous fide, ease of use and robustness trump all other features.
I've owned four sous vide cookers, and this one is the best. Its controls are simple, and its clamping mechanism is robust. The other three are now in a landfill somewhere because their control screens failed or their clamping mechanisms broke completely. I will never own another Wi-Fi-controlled sous vide, especially if from Anova.

Quiet, Precise, and User-Friendly โ A Fantastic Sous Vide for Home Cooks
The Greater Goods Kitchen Sous Vide Machine has been a game-changer in my kitchen. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned home chef, this device makes sous vide cooking incredibly approachable and reliable. What I love most: Fast and Quiet Performance: With its 1100-watt heating element and brushless motor, it heats water quickly and operates almost silentlyโperfect for long cooks without the noise. Simple, Intuitive Controls: The large LCD screen and button-dial interface are super easy to use. Setting temperature and time is straightforward, and the display is bright and easy to read from across the kitchen. Excellent Circulation: The water circulates evenly and efficiently, ensuring consistent cooking results. It passed every test I threw at itโfrom perfectly jammy eggs to juicy, tender steaks. Compact and Versatile: The screw clamp fits securely on a variety of pots and containers, and the sleek design doesnโt take up much space. While the temperature accuracy is just slightly off by less than a degree, itโs not enough to impact cooking results in any noticeable way. For the price, this sous vide machine offers performance that rivals much more expensive models. If you're looking for a reliable, quiet, and easy-to-use sous vide cooker that delivers restaurant-quality results at home, the Greater Goods Precision Cooker is a fantastic choice.

Sous vide cooker keeps accurate temp, is easy to set up, and very quiet.
I am new to sous vide cooking so the 5-star review simply means that there was nothing to report as faulty with the device. I can agree with reviews I read before ordering: the cooker is simple to set (no wireless interface, no accounts or passwords to monkey with), heats the water bath reasonably quickly, maintains the temperature for a long cooking time, and the water circulator is very quiet. I checked the bath temperature with the first use and found that it came to exactly the temperature I set. I've used the cooker and the container I ordered with it twice, to cook a chicken breast, and at a different time, a ribeye steak. Both came out cooked just right, at the desired temperatures. The steak astonished and delighted me - it was an on-sale special at my local supermarket which I sealed in a vacuum bag with seasonings and cooked 2.5 hr at 129F. With a quick sear on the stove afterward, the steak was a perfect medium rare. I look forward to trying other foods and prep times.

consistent accurate results
heats water bath quickly, achieves and maintains an accurate temperature. quiet unobtrusive humm while operating. the controls are uncomplicated and well assigned. The holder is substantial and functional and ready to use. I've used this for ribs, fruit compote, and roasts. maybe I'm missing the point but I see no practical need for wifi or remote monitoring... sous vide implies an uneventful extended period of inactivity so why would this need to be monitored? Simplicity is the greater benefit here and this cooker provides fine temperature control and to the minute timing. I compared the temperature achieved via 3 thermometers and they all agreed within 2% no calibration required. Some of our family members were skeptical when this cooker was proposed but after experiencing the results they now appreciate the results and I appreciate the ease of easily getting consistent results.

Well made, easy to set up, easy to use.
This is the third sous vide I ordered. The first two were from a different well known manufacturer and both arrived securely packaged in the manufacturers box and the Amazon outer.... and were both broken. The Greater Goods one wasn't my first choice but it should have been. It is well made/sturdy, easy to set up, easy to use and best of all.... not broken on arrival. Sure I could cook the same stuff in a regular pan but for me the real joy of a sous vide is being able to prepare food in advance, hold it at temperature while entertaining friends and then be able to quickly finish in a pan and serve.
