Unfortunately, while they are the awesome turntables they do not "officially" play 78's, there are modifications that can be done. I do know some people ho have had the modification done and are very happy with the new capabilities. If you google Modification to Technics SL-1200 or SL1210 MK2 turntables to play 78's you will find information on where this can be done. Best Regards, Rick **Q: On a scale from 1-10, what is the condition of your turntables?** A: I would say 8... everything on the turntable is in working order, just some very regular minor scratches where the dust cover corners would sit on the top of the of the turntable.. usual wear and tear that doesn't bother me at all... but other than that, pitch control, all lights, spinning record platter, start stop 33 45 buttons, antiskate, tone arm, and cables all work in great condition. Only thing I pretty much had to do was give it a good cleaning job... I already was expecting it to not be in brand new pristine condition. So the usual wear and tear didn't bother me at all... after cleaning it, looks and feels pretty much brand new. Those Technic 1200s are built to last forever & like a tank. If something does go wrong, with a little technical electronic knowledge. You just have to find and buy the replacement part and fix or have someone who knows electronics to fix it.... hope this helps with your decision making.
