I have oak furniture through out my home. This item is solid as stated in the name and beautiful.The slate has been smoothed down with no sharp corners or edges meaning they are soft to the touch which is pleasant. The Oak base has also been finished nicely with the slate inserts and I cannot see any glue where they are attached (if glue is what has been used). Almost forgot to mention a quirky addition to this product, you get chalk to write and customise the slide. I really like this because you can change what each slot is for by simply wiping of the chalk and renaming it.
