Review: First of all, I have to say that before I bought this chess set, I had been quite skeptical. On the one hand I expected some fragile chess pieces, but the beauty of the chessmen convinced me of buying this product. (By the way, I'm German, so I hope my English isn't too bad) After getting my 'Harry Potter Chess Set' and after having already played a lot with it... I can just say that it's awesome!!! 1. The material: The plastic isn't just hard. It's mixed with a flexible plastic, thus the chess pieces are very stable and the thinner parts, such as the crosier of the bishop, are flexible. So the chess pieces constist of a really durable material, a material that is simultaneously high quality... because it feels just right. And although the figures are hollow, they are perfectly balanced. 2. Appearance: The chess pieces are precise detail crafted... I haven't found any processing erros, the chessmen look just perfect. In fact all chess pieces have this marble style :) The chessboard is big - big enough to play and big enough so that the chess pieces don't look too big, In fact it's appearance is kind of perfect too... it has this marble effect (although it's just a woody board) 3. Fun? Yes, incredible fun! I have high respect of sacrificing my own awesome looking pawns... and playing this chess is just like being in the middle ages... the whole game get's a deeper meaning than just playing with some figures. To sum it up, this is a very beautiful and durable chess set that makes a lot of fun! I highly recommend it. Greetings from Berlin :)
Review: yo esperaba que fuera el tablero azul como la imagen de referencia (yo lo compre en especifico por el tablero azul), pero era negro eso por parte del proveedor ahora sobre el producto de fabrica un brazo de una pieza se rompió apenas que lo saque, (solo vacié la bolsa de piezas a mi cama) las blancas son mas bien grises y tiene unos puntos negros que no les da buena vista, el tablero es de cartón por lo que en mi opinión no me termina de agradar, no creo que sea la mejor calidad pero tampoco lo peor son solo cosas que me hubiera gustado saber antes de comprarlo las piezas las planero pintar pues si están bien detalladas y mande a hacer con resina epoxica el tablero azul, consideren que las piezas son muy grandes en comparacion a otros tableros de ajedrez, creo que vale la pena comprar si se encuentra en oferta

**Q: What are the exact dimensions of each chess piece?**
A: I don't know.  It was a gift.

**Q: In the comments it states that the price was $20.00. Why did it raise to $79.95?**
A: That review was from January 2011 which was almost 3 years ago.  This item is no longer sold in stores so it is now considered a "collectible".  Since it is now much harder to find, the demand from collectors & Harry Potter fans has caused the value of this item to increase.  If you're not worried about keeping the item in the box, you may want to consider purchasing a used copy at a reduced price.

**Q: Are the pieces plastic or metal?**
A: The pieces are a plastic composite that looks and wears very similar to stone without being as fragile.  The pieces are very nice for a mass produced set.

**Q: do the peices move or have a sliding thing to move?**
A: This set is NOT stone, it is just plastic. It is a child's set that cost about $10 new. It is a rip-off to buy. I got one and paid $129 from BJ's. I sent it back and got charged a restocking fee plus I paid all shipping. I lost about $50. I think they sell the same set to a lot of people. I was sent 2 sets of pieces and some were broke. If you can find a real stone set let me know, but I do not think they sell one on Amazon. This is the only thing that I have gotten off Amazon's site that was SO BAD.
