## Description

Pioneer Pet Pump Replacement for Smartcat Fountains

Review: Identical to original. - The pump replaced was around 8 or 9 years old and what went wrong was the wire at the bend coming out of the unit finally cracked the sheathing. Pump was still working to point.
Review: Works fine and lasts a long time - I'm surprised by all the negative reviews I see for this pump. These are very simple devices. There's only one moving part: the pump impeller. The rest of it is the AC motor winding and the housing. There's not much that *can* go wrong with them. But they will get dirty and clogged. We've kept 3 or 4 cats over the last 10 years, and we've had one of these Fountain watering bowls for most of that time... call it 7 years now. I usually clean the filter & bowl every couple of weeks. I change the filter once per quarter (3 months). Our pump has never failed, but it has lost pressure over time. You can disassemble the pump for cleaning by prying the output side loose using a small, thin-bladed screwdriver. (See the pic.) Once the pump's apart, rinse the parts and wipe them down with a cotton swab. Be sure to swab the output spout. Then re-assemble and away you go. I cleaned the original pump in our fountain this way recently and it works like a new pump now. I was going to post pix of my disassembly but I see that the maker has finally posted this advice. In our case, cleaning the pump once per year would be plenty, so once a month sounds too often to me. But your mileage may vary.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How, exactly, do you clean the pump? Ours has stopped working after only 6 months.**
A: 1. Unplug the fountain. 2. Remove outside bowl cover. 3. Gently lift the pump out of the lower bowl. Suction cups on the bottom of the Pump will hold it in place. A small amount of force may be necessary. 4. Remove Filter box from pump. 5. Once the Pump is out of the fountain, with your thumb and forefinger, gently squeeze on either side of the intake plate, and pull off. It may be necessary to insert a fingernail into the seam of the inlet plate to pry if off. 6. Next you will need to remove the Stator by placing your finger nail under the small lip located on the narrow side of tear drop shaped stator and pull out. 7. Once the Stator is removed you can also remove the impeller (3-white-bladed propeller) which is held in place magnetically. To remove the impeller, use a fingernail (or slide the rounded end of a paperclip) to get under the blade and lift it out. 8. Once the Pump is disassembled you can clean the parts with warm soapy water. Use a cotton swab to get into the Pump cavity and remove any build-up. For added disinfection and hard water removal, clean the Pump with white vinegar. 9. Rinse well 10. Once the parts are clean you can reassemble the Pump for use. Make sure to replace the impeller (spin it a few times with your finger in either direction), Stator and then cover plate.

**Q: This says 5 inches x 5 inches? is that correct? it doesn't look that big, and shouldn't be for the drinkwell 360 pet fountain.**
A: If this is the same pump as is provided by Pioneer Pet with all of its fountains, or if it is fully exchangable with it, then this pump is (or should have the same specs as) the SKYISH TP-180LV, a 12V 60Hz 2W, which has a Head lift of 0-50cm claimed on its label. That pump body has been reported here by others to measure 1-3/4" x 1-7/8" x 1-1/4". It is used in all the current Pioneer Pets fountains and is easily available from Pioneer Pets' website at http://www.pioneerpet.com/product/3026a-12v-pump-transformer-for-ceramic-and-ss-fountains/.

**Q: what voltage is the pump and or how many amps does it draw?**
A: The pump is 12 volts and it comes with a 120 volt power source that draws 2 watts, not amps. Two watts is about 1/20 of an amp. It draws less current than a night light.

**Q: will this pump fit the big max stainless steel fountain?**
A: Of great importance is the pump model's size -- IF this is the same pump as that provided by Pioneer Pet, the SKYISH TP-180LV, then it has a 12V 60Hz 2W, with a Head lift of 0-50cm. Its pump body has been reported by others here to measure 1-3/4" x 1-7/8" x 1-1/4". This pump is reportedly used in ALL the current Pioneer Pet fountains; it would be best to compare those dimensions to what you need for the Big Max.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don't cut corners by Pioneer pet replacement parts!
*by D***. on October 8, 2023*

I've had the fountain for I think. Around six years and the original pump finally went out and I replaced it with a Generic universal pump. It worked fine. And it saved me Money or so I thought. I provided the picture to show you what I finally realized after buying another universal pump Around a year later. The chord is very thin and it cracks. So this time I went back to the Pioneer Pet replacement pump and the chord Is twice as thick. In the picture, you can see the difference. The one on the left is the Pioneer Pet and the one on the right is the generic. If you buy the cheaper one, the chord will eventually crack in places where it is under water. If you need anything replaced from Pioneer like the casing for the motor and Amazon does not carry it you can buy it off of Pioneer pet.com. They're customer service is top-notch. You can't beat it. It's easy to install, and the cleaning takes a second. Overall the right call this time. I believe I will actually save money because I won't have to buy a pump next year.
