It is a soft but smooth fabric with no 'fluff' to get sucked into little mouths. The best feature for young babies is the bold colour and pattern. It draws the focus of the baby more than his other soft toys and is the perfect size for little hands to pick up. I was a little disappointed with the packaging which was just a plain plastic bag, but in hindsight it really doesn't matter as Elmer himself is good quality and the packaging was always destined for the bin.
