I already have the Lego set and have finished building it. Would I need to take the whole thing apart to add the the light kit?

Just remove some blocks to install the lighting. Please don't worry, we have provided online instructions to guide you step by step.

Can you still separate into the three main pieces and take the rooves off as designed once the light kit is installed?

No, the wires for the lights are installed in each of the 3 parts and ultimately connection wires run through the underside of each unit and connect together. There are light strips and individual bulbs that are attached to the undersides of several roof parts to illuminate the interior. It does look fantastic all lit up! But is better if you only intend to display. It isn’t conducive to play after installed.
