## Overview

The DVD Region X for PS2 is a groundbreaking device that allows you to play DVDs from any region, including PAL and NTSC formats. It eliminates the frustrating 'green screen' effect when using SCART/RGB cables, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable viewing experience. Perfect for movie enthusiasts looking to expand their collection beyond regional limitations.

## Description

Product Description Datel's DVD Region X lets you play import DVDs from any region on your PlayStation 2. No modifications to your console are needed--just load up the DVD Region X disc, select the region you require on screen, then sit back and watch your movie. DVD Region X also removes the "green screen" effect that normally occurs when you try to watch any DVD on a PlayStation 2 via SCART or RGB. Note: you will need a dedicated, formatted memory card to use this product; if you use an existing one your game-saves will be erased. .co.uk Review If you want to take better advantage of the PS2's DVD capabilities then the DVD Region X is a great device that allows you to "convert" your console into a multi-region player. The pack is basically a software disc which you insert into your machine; it displays a menu on your screen with all the regions (1 to 6) and lets you choose which zone the film you want to play belongs to. You then remove the disk and insert your DVD (using your controller and PS2 browser to select the film) and you'll have multi-region playback from your humble games machine. A side issue is that the disk also solves the "green screen" problem caused by Sony's modifying the RGB signal to better accommodate video games--which typically results in DVDs having a rather sickly tint. The device even allows you to play the increased security coded disks (Regional Coding Enhancement) which manage to foil most chipped DVD players. Older versions of this product included a "key" which fit into one of the memory card slots, but because Datel discovered there was a potential for piracy, with this version you just get the disc and have to provide your own dedicated and formatted memory card. It's best to use a new one as when it's formatted it will erase any saved game data. Also, gamers owning early PlayStation 2s may find that the software does not work with their machine. Despite this, the DVD Region X is definitely the easiest and most cost-effective way of playing DVDs from any region, and the savings you make and kudos you get from having seen films on DVD before they've been released in the UK is more than worth the cost of an extra memory card. --Kristen Bowditch

Manufacturer's Description The built-in movie player on the PlayStation2 video game console forms the centre of a high quality home entertainment system, with just one shortfall--it won't play movies designed for other regions. An essential purchase for movie fans everywhere, DVD Region X lets you play import DVD movies on your PS2. You'll need a dedicated memory card; simply load the Region X CD, sit back, relax and enjoy watching any region coded movie on your PlayStation 2. No modifications to your console are needed. Box Contains DVD Region X (PS2) See more

Opens up a much wider world of DVD entertainment.

Let's face it: Region 2 was never the best when it comes to DVD releases. If you want to get an obscure film from the 1980s, or a complete cartoon series from your youth, or the collected works of the Three Stooges dating back to the 1930s, or anything that isn't mainstream and current in the UK, you're pretty much out of luck. I thought I could use my computer to play all my discs, Region 1 included, but then I discovered that computers, for some perverse reason, will only let you change the DVD region two or three times before locking up.Then a friend recommended this Region X disc to me, and I was suddenly able to watch whatever discs I wanted, whenever I wanted, on my old PS2 (it's one of the very first PS2s released). After all, why buy a whole new machine when you can buy a cheap bit of software that will make your old machine work just fine? And I love this product. It's very simple and very effective. You turn on your TV and PS2. Pop the Region X disc in your PS2. Your PS2 does some thinking, the screen asks you to choose what region you want to play, you choose it, and your PS2 spits the Region X disc back out. Replace the Region X disc with the DVD you want to watch, press the button to get the disc-tray back in, wait a bit, and your foreign DVD is ready to play!PROS: Will allow you to view DVDs from anywhere in the world. Very useful for titles that, for whatever annoying reason, just aren't published in Region 2 (or whatever your home DVD Region is). Simple, easy-to-follow onscreen instructions should take care of your needs 95% - 99.9% of the time. Can be used over and over and over for years, and will not cause your PS2 to "lock" into a DVD Region after a couple of uses.CONS: Sometimes the region change won't take and you need to do "The IT Crowd" thing (turn if off and on again) and try again, but it only happens rarely. Lack of full instruction book. If I have one complaint, it's that my PS2 is a very sensitive DVD player that will simply refuse to play some discs (even in the native Region 2) or throw fits and classify a disc as "unreadable" if it's got a speck of dust on it, but that's the PS2's fault, not the fault of the Region X disc. And, yeah, okay, you have to use this every single time you want to change the Region setting, and the setting reverts to your native Region if you turn the PS2's power off or put it in standby mode. But if that's your biggest complaint, then, frankly, you're spoilt.I haven't noticed much in the way of problems with this product, certainly not some of the problems other reviewers have noted. Maybe I lucked out, maybe the others got bad copies; I couldn't say. On the whole, I'm very, very happy with this purchase, even six years later. Highly recommended.

Even plays new encrypted Region 1 DVD's

*by R***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 August 2001*

I own a multi region Pioneer DV717 but unfortunately some of the newer region 1 DVD's have been specially encrypted so they wont play on most multi region players (including mine). When I tried this Region X with Hollow Man (region 1 new encrypted) I wasnt expecting it to work as my Pioneer Multi region cant play it...............but it did!!!!You will be able to play any dvd from any region in seconds, just plug and play. For some dvds, (any region) you may need a proper scart lead that supports RGB, because some films will display in a strange grey/green colour with the naff standard euro/scart lead.
