This will let you modify settings such as custom charge profiles, adjust power assist on comparable units, enable soft surge buffer and many other settings, along with doing everything the Bluetooth can do. The bluetooth is for monitoring and selecting max Amps connection for power assist, you can not change settings. In using the MK3-USB with a double din android stereo as a all in one multimedia/ info center and controller for my mulitplus-ii 2x120 the newest of the victron units so ignore the recommendation thats its for the "older" gear only **Q: Does it work on a MacBook Air?** A: Yes, as of late 2020 this will connect to an Apple product and operate via the Victron Connect App. You no longer need Windows for this to work, however there are still a very few settings that cannot be changed within Victron Connect. Along with a Windows PC, it allows you to update firmware and configure Victron VE.Bus devices. The Multi hybrid inverter / chargers are one example of what it works with. Firmware updates are now a way of life for most devices. That's made it into the world of power. Configuration has gotten complex enough on high end devices that dip switches may or may not let you do what you need to do. The more exotic your application, the more likely you are to need this to configure things. Operationally it's no harder to use than most similar devices. It's not as simple as an app on a phone that hooks up over Bluetooth. The intended audience is a pro installer rather than an end user. Indeed, if you are paying somebody else to put in your system, this probably will not be on your list of things to buy. If you have buddies with Victron gear, borrow one and / or let them update your gizmo. One other use for this is after pulling wires from "way back there" to "all the way up here". There is always a question of "did we break something" after all the tugging and pulling. Firing this up with the other end plugged into your device is a quick way to make sure all is well. There are other ways to check a cable. I would not buy one of these just to do that. If you have it sitting there ... use it. Worth the money if you have a device that needs it.
