The critically acclaimed Scoop series of albums gives the listener a privileged peek behind the scenes of one of popular music’s greatest songwriters. The albums showcase Pete Townshend’s career spanning demos for both The Who and his solo recordings. The first release, ‘Scoop’, was released in 1983 and includes Townshend’s versions of Who classics such as ‘So Sad About Us’, ‘Squeeze Box’, ‘Circles’, ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ and ‘Love Reign O’er Me’. ‘Another Scoop’ followed four years later and continued to provide valued access to the Pete Townshend’s vaults. Among the tracks included on this volume are ‘Pinball Wizard’, ‘Substitute’, ‘You Better You Bet’ and ‘Pictures of Lily’. ‘Scoop 3’ surfaced in 2001 and included Townshend’s initial versions of the classics ‘The Real Me’, ‘ Sea and Sand’, ‘Eminence Front’ as well as ‘Parvardigar’ taken from Townshend’s first solo release. The Scoop series provides a fascinating insight into the working process of Pete Townshend the artist.

Fascinating opening salvo of Townshend demos, an enjoyable peek behind the creative curtain of his writing & recording process, demonstrating how songs evolve & change from their initial inception.Featuring a whole glut of previously unreleased songs:“Zelda” – recording during the “Face Dances” sessions“Politician” – recording early in Townshend career, no specific date given“Dirty Water” – recording during the “Face Dances” sessions“Melancholia” pre-Tommy“Things have Changed” – written in 1965“Popular” - recording during the “Face Dances” sessions“Cache, Cache” - recording during the “Face Dances” sessions“Cookin’’’ - no date given“Your so clever” – recording during sessions for “Empty Glass”“Body Language” - recording during sessions for “Chinese eyes”“Mary” - recording during sessions for “Who’s next”“Goin’ Fishing” – no date given“To Barney Kessell” recording during sessions for “Who by numbers”“You come back”So pretty much an entire album of new songs, my favourites are “Dirty Water”, which has an unusual double violin effect & “Mary” which is a nice folk-styled ballad.Excellent sound quality throughout & I quite like that the tracks aren’t in chronological order, only quibble is that the double CD last for about seventy minutes (the album was original released on vinyl in the early eighties), it’s a shame that could not have been expanded with a few extra tracks added.Still if you’re a Who fan “Scoop” will bring an lot of pleasurable listening.

A must for Pete Townshend fans
I have the vinyl version of this record from years ago, but hadn't been able to play it for several decades. Was really excited to get it on CD and be able to hear it again. So many gems!
