Some of the edges on the base are a little sharp (not dangerous) so probably not best for young children. Review: Great quality product - I always use metal rulers, even if I only use them for maths. They are very durable, and don't have the horrible bumpiness of plastic rulers. This ruler also has a rubber lining on the bottom which stops it slipping, which is a nice touch. The first one I ordered was bent in the post (really bent, like a boomerang) but I returned it and the seller was kind enough to send a new one! I'd use Staedtler to test the accuracy of something else.
