Isn't this too big for my home use machine?

What does the S in front of the number indicate?

So when they first came out with thread sets like the one I originally bought (only had 63 colors) and the colors where germane to Smiththread. Now they have so many different sets (one of the sets I have matches Maderia color sets; the 120 spool set) they all have an S in front of the numbers...however some of the numbers are the same, minus the "S" in my 63 color set, but are a totally different color. Short answer, it is only their color number (since they have multiple colors with same number). I hope this makes sense.

Can I use this for bobbin thread?

Yes. I do and it works just fine. It's a 40 wt

Is this good for a Brother pr1055x embroidery machine?

I am a first time embroidery machine owner I have a Brother NQ3600D I bought this thread and it works fantastic. I have used it for over a year and it has worked for many different projects. Love the colors! Good quality.

Economical Larger Simthread Spool

When I began machine embroidery seven years ago, I purchased a 64 pack of Simthread from Amazon. I didn’t know anything about machine embroidery, but the Simthread has worked very well all these years, both on my first machine and a newer model. I use a lot of white thread, so I always order this larger spool of Simthread. So far, Amazon always stocks Simthread. Note: if you are new to machine embroidery, you need a thread stand in order to use the larger spool.
