Real Steel (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Have you seen this movie! It rocks. Pew pew! Bang! Robots punch each other. At one point the robot punches a bull. The dad is a deadbeat, and redems himself. The kid is a little annoying but hey we here to watch robot am i right!

This movie had me hooked from start to finish. The storyline was powerful, the acting was top-notch, and the emotions felt so real. I loved how it kept me guessing and pulled at my heartstrings at the same time. The visuals and soundtrack added so much depth. Definitely one of the best films I’ve seen in a while — highly recommend watching it!

Love this movie

This one of our family favorites. Jackman is great as Charlie, an ex-pugilist and hapless opportunist (with a good heart buried in there somewhere), turned owner-operator of a robot boxer. The robot boxers are huge finely-tuned remote-controlled robots that now dominate the boxing ring, and the movie makes them appear very real. Evangeline Lilly is beautiful and convincing as Bailey who still believes in Charlie, but is becoming fed-up with his get-rich-quick schemes. Kevin Durand steals the scenes he has as Charlie's rival/nemesis, and Anthony Mackie does a great job as the streetwise fight promoter. I let my 8 and 11 y.o. sons watch this movie and they love it. There is a tiny bit of rough language, and only a brief and subtle sexual inuendo between Charlie and Bailey, when just back in from the road Charlie jokingly says to her, "I need a shower. Bailey, you want to take a shower?" She laughingly rebuffs him of course, and there is no physical intimacy displayed between the two of them. At one point after giving up custody of his son because he realizes he has endangered him, an emotionally and physically drained Charlie returns to Bailey and lays next to her and sleeps in a very caring and respectful way. The next morning they share a single kiss and as Charlie prepares to leave again to go to his son, Bailey remarks, "You came a long way for just one kiss", indicating that that's all that happened. Also, there is a fist-fight scene when people come to collect a debt from Charlie that may be scary for younger kids 8 and under. IMHO, compared to the risque' and deviant themes some movies foist upoin our kids these days, Real Steal is very tolerable in that regard and delivers a fast-paced story with heart and good special effects, and we meet a variety of characters along the way. In the end we see the fruits of the efforts of a father and son who find each other and a place in the world together. At the heart of this story are themes of the value of loyalty, family, contrition, courage, accepting responsibility and taking initiative on your beliefs and dreams. In the end and even with all his faults, Charlie, who is never really portrayed as a hero, learns to be a better man and father. And it's all done against the back-drop of giant brawling robots!!! My kids keep asking when the sequel is coming....

Real Steel was a blind buy for me. I thought it looked good in the trailers and it generally got good word of mouth. I really didn't know anything about the story going in to my viewing but I expected a lot of heavy action involving robots and not a whole lot more. I was very pleasantly surprised at just how wrong I was. With that said, first let me say a couple things about this 3-disc set from a technical perspective: The video presentation here is for all intents and purposes perfect. It is an absolutely gorgeous transfer and demo material in every sense of the word. Colors are rich and vibrant. Eveything is well defined with detail that shows off exactly what Blu-ray is here for; a superb picture. The 7.1 DTS audio mix is top notch. Everything has a place and the mix never gets cluttered. Dialogue is never lost and there is plenty in the surrounds to keep you happy. Much like the visual presentation, the sound is dedinitely demo material. It is clean and powerful in every way. From well placed panning effects to subtle hints in the rear surrounds this entire mix is everything you could possibly want; clear, concise, and powerful. Now, for the movie itself. As mentioned above, not really knowing the story I was quite surprised to see what this movie is actually about. I expected action and Real Steel delivers on full on robotic fighting. But there's so much more here that I think some people completely missed. The story isn't about boxing or robots. It's about a Father who is suddenly faced with the responsibilty of caring for a son he abandoned. Charlie (played very well by Jackman), a retired boxer, comes face to face with demons from his past, on multiple levels. Max, his son, is abandoned in just about every possible way (no father, mother dies, guardians leave him for a vacation). Without giving too much of the plot away, there's a whole lot more here than you might be willing to see, but it is thee. This story, from what I took from it, is about a Father and Son who happen to bond over fighting giant robots. It isn't about giant robots with a familial story arc thrown in for substance. That is where I found Real Steel to be a big surprise. With that said, the action sequences (which to be honest I expected more of them) are very well done. The fact that they worked with real boxers is very evident in the fighting. And the effects, both practical and CGI, are amazing hence the Oscar nomination. The character of "Atom", the main robot fighter, is so well done that in the end you're not only cheeing for Charlie and Max but you're cheering for this otherwise emotionless hunk of scrap metal as well. In closing I'll quote Max who at one point tells Charlie to "fight for me". This line sums up Real Steel very well in that on two different levels Charlie must find himself and become a better man, father and fighter than he ever thought he could be. This is a really, really good movie. Highly recommended!

What a great movie. Sure, the storyline is predictable, but the entertainment value is huge. The thing about this movie is that I could see the depicted robot fights, the computer technology, basically everything about it, as coming about in the normal course of our society. A wholly believable story, probably one of the easiest SF movies to watch in terms of suspending disbelief in quite some time -- and it's worth mentioning that this actually *is* science fiction in the classic sense; a little technology, all of it reasonable, around which wraps a good story. It's not a fantasy, as are many so-called SF stories today. So here we have really great robots, some awesome robot fighting, a not-overly annoying kid, and scenes that are (obviously intentionally) reminiscent of big-arena sports today, all combined with some feel-good stuff in the classic sense. It kind of looks like a kid's movie before you watch it; then when you watch it, there are adult-ish elements; at the end, I wondered who they thought they were marketing to? Perhaps that's why this didn't do all that well at the box office: the kid probably turned off the hard core SF types, the violence probably turned off legions of mommies and daddies, and the people who did go and enjoy it didn't make the case to others that it really wasn't a kid's movie or a movie that is all that violent in the living-things-getting-hurt sense of the word. Well, whatever the case there may be, I say, forget anything anyone says and just sit down with the desire to be entertained. I think you'll find that entertainment is delivered as desired, and in spades. They clearly set it up (very well) for a sequel, but it's unlikely we'll see one, again because of the box office performance. Too bad. I really, really liked it. I think you probably will too.

One of my favorite movies

An enjoyable movie that has a bit of everything. It's about a deadbeat dad who despite himself comes good and a son that never gives up in what he believes in. What initially is a father and son relationship that is non existent after the two are thrown together by the passing 9f the boys mother..through their mutual love of robot fighting they develope a friendship and mutual respect. After competing and winning several robot fights with their old school junkyard find robot named Atom, the underdog takes on the top dog at a shot at the championship and almost makes it but discovers that not winning doesn't mean that you're a loser. A family movie packed with action (robots are pretty cool ) and feel good moments ..worth watching again.

Magari facessero anche il 2ndo!! Ma sembra che Real Steel 2 non è in progetto, peccato, perché ci sarebbero tutte le premesse per una continuazione del film. Straconsigliato!!!

CSで放映されてたのを観て、大好きだったのにソフト買ってないなと思い購入。 ものすごく好みなストーリーでヒュー・ジャックマンもダメ親を演じてますが若くてカッコよくてビジュアルも良いです BD黎明期はこのようなDVDメインでパッケージもDVD準拠ですがBDがおまけにつく仕様でしたね これ系は中古はお安くなってるのでBDパッケージに執着がなければお得にゲットできます。

Hugh plays a mighty role worth every cent, great supporting cast with a different story that will have you on the edge seat plus entertainment, Robots fight in the ring that makes you wonder about down the track in the future. Action and suspense with the thrills and spills that go with it, what more could you want. The curves fly and things do go wrong, plus some things fall apart now. Not just a mans movie its every ones to watch and enjoy, so get with it, move on for a thrilling night of sheer delight with a mixture of feelings that have you reeling in your seat riveted to the chair. So set yourself up with the popcorn, relax and put your feet up settle for an fabulous night in with a delightful movie, a must to all to see. I rated this an A grade plus so enjoy!
