A: The dip switches in the receiver needs to be set differently from the remote. If you have done that already, then it is defective.

**Q: Can this receiver be placed outdoors? I need to wire for a pool light but have access to the receiver manual button as well.**
A: The receiver typically is installed in the box the light fixture is on or the fixture itself. It would depend on how your pool light is wired. I don't see any reason it couldn't be installed in the box the pool light is wired to, like where the current switch is, as long as it is waterproof.
