Happy Customer
After only 3 cleanings I had to call customer service to help me out because it stopped working and they told me that I need a new cleaning head module. I can’t believe I need to replace parts after having it less than a week. Hopefully after I get the new part it will work again. Customer service was very nice and helpful so I’m grateful for that. Update: After seeing my review a customer service representative reached out to help resolve the issues I was having and now everything is working great! I do recommend cleaning the hair and debris out from underneath, but it really does collect a lot of dirt. It’s nice to see a company that cares that much about their customers and can stand behind a quality product.

Mop is useless, vac is decent, poop avoidance is perfect
UPDATE 6/6/25: I've had this vacuum since January 2024. Regularly replace the parts as required. It now gets lost on a regular basis and dies in random areas of my home. It does not get obstructed and dies trying to get out, it just flat out dies out in the open. It takes forever to charge when it actually charges. Right now it's being sitting in the charger for two days and will not charge (yes, I've cleaned the charging links). Avoid this overprice piece of crap. I’ve had this vacuum for 9 months. The mopping function unfortunately is pretty much useless if you have pets, or children, or anything that tracks in dirt. There is not enough pressure against the floor to actually clean anything. It does avoid rugs quite well so if all you need is a light mop, this might work well. The vacuum function is decent but not great. I have dogs so run mine at least once per day and the biggest problem is that the dirt doesn’t always make it into the chamber that is easy to empty, and I end up having to sort of bang the vacuum against the side of my garbage to get the inside empty (generally not much at all in the easy chamber). The thing it does very well is avoid poops. I have two senior dogs who can’t always make it through the night and sometimes there is a poop that appears overnight. I may not notice it and run the vacuum (usually in a spot I won’t notice immediately). The vacuum has avoided this every time and each time sends me a photo of the “obstacle” at the end of the session. The replaceable parts are very easy to change out and I like how easy it is to assign specifics areas/rooms to clean vs entire home.

After 1 year of use, very pleased with it
I felt it was only appropriate to wait for a year of using this vacuum before reviewing it. I love it. It is an absolute game changer. I can only speak for the vacuuming because I've never tried the mopping. My only real complaints with it are battery life is kind of short, requires a charge within almost each job it does if it's longer than an hour. Other than that no real issues. The app will occasionally lose my schedule (happened maybe 2x) which is a little annoying but not a huge deal. Most issues I've had with it have all been resolved with a simple reset. Nothing major speak about. Does a great job cleaning, doesn't really get stuck that often. Maps pretty well and the smart predictions for the map are pretty cool. Made its own zone for the litter box and around the oven which was nice. Not super quiet... not extremely loud. You're better off buying knock off replacement brushes and filters though. Overall I'd recommend.

Two Years Of Cleaning--A Solid, Vacuuming Robot
We have owned our Roomba j5 combo for just shy of two years at the time I'm writing this review. It's the first robo vac I've ever owned. It cleans three floors, counting a finished basement, totaling around 2800 square feet. In quick summary: This is a good robot vacuum overall. It does quite well at vacuuming typical daily messes off hardwood flooring, as well as hair, dust, and dirt removal from carpets. The mopping capability is quite limited, but this is to be expected with how the technology was at the time. Navigation and overall software experiences is definitely not perfect, but I find that its AI learning system actually has made it better over time. STRENGTHS: -Dual brush roller design from iRobot is very good at picking up dirt on any surface. I feel it shines particularly well on carpets. I have a cat who sheds a lot, and another person in the house with long hair. It extracts A LOT of debris from my floors! -Over time, the robot gets "smarter" with its navigation. I find that, after it running daily jobs for nearly two years, it rarely gets stuck on obstacles. In its early days in the house, I had a handful of troubles with getting stuck randomly. -The app is simple and fairly easy to use. I schedule daily cleanings and forget about it. The robot will do its thing. -The robot has a modular design, making it quite easy to work on. I've never had to replace anything on the robot other than its normal consumable parts (filter, edge sweeping brushes, brush rollers), but it's good to know that if something major happens to it in the future, it can be repaired easily. -I will mention a few of the software bugs below. All of the issues mentioned have been able to be solved by a simple reboot of the robot, or letting it re-map. I've never had to do a factory reset or send the device in for repairs. WEAKNESSES -I've run into errors such as "Localization Problem", "Path Blocked"... etc. One annoying issue it had for a bit was it not wanting to clean specific clean zones, if I started a job and only wanted it to clean part of a room. It would act like it was going to start, but then it would immediately stop and give an error message. These types of problems are usually due to software bugs. I've been able to fix every single error with a simple reboot. There was one instance where I had to delete the smart map and let it re-map the house. -Like with any robot, it cannot avoid every single obstacle. Sometimes, it'll still get stuck on something it shouldn't have tried to vacuum over. As said before, this kind of issue happens less and less with time as the robot learns. -It is somewhat noisy. Not a huge deal, but still worth noting. -It is not a very good mopper. I would not recommend buying this one if you are looking for a robot specifically to get your floors clean. The mop pad is just dragged across the floor when it is attached. There is no spinning motion, or extra downward force to improve it. Look for a newer robot if you want better mopping capabilities. Although there are newer robots out there with better technology, this one is still worth looking at in my opinion. If you need something that is very decent at vacuuming your floors, isn't expensive, and likely will have long-term durability, then give this one a try!

Does a great job. Learning curve, poor directions.
Yes it works very well, maps house nicely, goes around things, does not continually bump into things, Directions written by know nothings and ;(&$-/" lawyers. direction are wrong and do not tell you to clean wheel housing, photo of wheel, need pliers to release. Sensirs need constant cleaning, so use paper towel with cleaner each time you empty the bin. My Labrador likes to get right into the path and challenge, it is funny.

Mixed feelings after 8 years of Loyalty
After my trusty Roomba 960 finally gave out following an impressive 8 years of consistent, low-maintenance performance, I was genuinely excited to upgrade to a newer model. Naturally, I chose the Roomba J5 Combo, enticed by the added mop function and newer tech. I figured—if my old Roomba was that great, the newer one had to be even better, right? Unfortunately, that hasn’t quite been the case. First off, the bin on the J5 is noticeably smaller than my 960, which means more frequent emptying—a real inconvenience. Due to the increased pricing, I opted out of the self-emptying model, and now I’m regretting that choice. The mop feature was a big selling point for me, but it’s been a major letdown. Even knowing it’s more of a wet Swiffer than a true mop, it barely dispenses any water at all. I even tried pre-wetting the pad, but it still failed to clean effectively. The mopping feels more like a gimmick than a real feature. Worse yet, the J5 has had a recurring issue where it gets “stuck” mid-clean—just sitting in place, running its motor endlessly without moving or cleaning. No button reset helped. I’ve had to go so far as to flip the unit over, unscrew the housing, manually pull the battery, and reinsert it just to get it functional again. This happened almost daily, even after factory resets and re-mapping the house. To top it off, the bottom housing already shows signs of wear after just a few uses—especially around the spinning edge brush. It makes me question whether this model is built to last even a fraction as long as my 960 did. That said, it’s not all bad. The J5 runs quieter than my old model and offers the same strong suction and dirt pickup, which was reassuring. One feature I really did love is its ability to take pictures of obstacles and ask for input to improve future runs. That’s a clever addition that shows potential. In summary, while the J5 Combo has some modern conveniences and solid vacuuming performance, it simply doesn’t match the reliability and durability of the 960. I want to love it—but right now, I just can’t trust it the same way I trusted my old Roomba.

A total disappointment
I was excited to automate the routine task of sweeping and mopping, but very simply, this robot does not do that. Honestly, it is far more efficient to sweep/mop yourself than it has been to try and figure out the exact perfect conditions under which this robot can operate. We have a 3-room single-story apartment and have tried multiple base station locations, we have redone the map, we’ve gone room by room eliminating any cords/obstacles on the floor that may obstruct its path, and no matter what, it still it gets lost or stuck or runs out of charge or gets full before finishing the job. It’s the exact opposite of a time-saving device. Out of the 10 or so times we have tried to run it, it has completed the job only once and in the process left so much dust behind that I ended up having to sweep anyway. The mop function is basically useless and won’t work *at all* on the linoleum kitchen floor where the mopping would be the most useful. It just gets immediately stuck because the weight of the Roomba mop creates so much drag that it can’t propel itself in a straight line. I read that switching to a different very specific soap solution/ratio would solve this problem, but it did not. A truly unbelievable design flaw. I am disappointed. I really figured that after more than a decade of this technology being around it would be way better at this than it currently is. I truly do not know what type of environment this Roomba would be suitable for.

Best pet hair picker upper
The J5 combo is not my first irobot roomba. I have a roomba 650 that I purchased is 2013 and it is still going strong. Having that experience I was sure I would be happy with the J5 combo. I am very happy with it so far. I have only had it for 8 days but have used it every day since it arrived. I have 3 dogs (2 are very heavy shedders). I have not found any battery operated stick vacuums that come close to doing as good a job as the roombas for pet hair. They never get jammed up with hair like the stick vaccuums. They let you know if the dust bin gets full before completing the job. I have vinyl plank flooring throughout the house and a few small throw rugs. I find the mopping feature ideal for my floors. I use it almost everyday and it is like damp mopping the floor. Never saturating it but still getting it clean. With 3 dogs tracking in mud and dirt it does an excellent job of keeping my floors looking good if used every day. I do have a hard time getting the j5 seated correctly on the charger if I stop it somewhere and pick it up and move it to the base. However when it returns to the base on its own it seats itself good. My roomba 650 has a docking button and a spot cleaning button that I wish the J5 combo had, but that is very minor. The j5 app for my android phone was very easy to set up.

Want to free up your time!
I use this for floors and carpets. It's amazing. Maps the room first and picks up dirt at same time. I have 3 dogs who do not shed but they bring in plenty of the outdoors! This will pick up fine dirt that a normal vacuum won't, except for a Dyson lol. The floor washer works like a charm, I purchased the cleaner, I have laminate and hardwood, it cleaned up dog foot prints and dirt at the same time! All you have to do after washing the floor is remove the little pad, which has cleaner in it still, rub it together and get the pad clean, rinse and let it dry. what would take me 3 hours to sweep, vacuum and wash is now done by roomba so I can do other cleaning. it did however meet up with a squeek and sent me a note lol.

A great robovac but a mediocre robomop
Setup was easy and the first mapping run returned good results. The vac correctly identified and labelled all the rooms. The one living room divider line was a bit off but easily corrected. The "no mop" rug areas were easy to set. It does a great job of vacuuming and is acceptably quiet. It readily identified and photographed obstacles and sent them to the App for instruction. However the mopping function is mediocre. For the first mopping run I filled the reservoir with iRobot Braava mopping solution and it left visible streaks and tire tracks on the laminate floor after it dried. A second run with plain water removed most of the steaks. I don't know if a different mopping solution would make a difference. It failed to remove a number of dried spill marks and I had to go over them my Swiffer mop to remove them. I would have given this item five stars if it weren't for the mopping performance.

iRobot J5
Vacuum part works very well...I haven't tried the Vacuum/mop bin combo yet but so far, I am very impressed with the vacuum. It picks up all of my GSD'S dog hair on my rugs with no problems... it cleans in straight rows... and the mapping was so fast... it also cleans quickly and efficiently... I definitely do recommend the roomba J5... I purchased it on sale and it's worth every penny... it's a GREAT product!

Disappointing performance with constant errors
I purchase this robot vacuum at the end of the November 2023, and unfortunately, it has not lived up to the expectations. More than half the time, it goes unused due to ongoing issues that make it more of a hassle than a help. The biggest problem is that it frequently stops with an error message stating, "ended the job struck". The frustrating part is that there is often no visible obstacle causing the error. For example, it has even considered its own dock as hindrance! It sometimes stops in the middle of an open living room area for no apparent reason, so our daily routine now if we choose to run the vaccum includes manually moving the vacuum back to the dock for charging. Another issue is that when I prompt it to clean, it occasionally runs around the dock before it seems to get lost, struggling to find the charging stations again. This means we have to monitor it to make sure its actually cleaning and moving through the house before we leave, which defeats the purposes of having a robot vaccum with scheduling option in the first place . Does it remove dust? Yes, but does it clean thoroughly? Not really. It misses spots and often doesn't complete its cleaning cycle properly due to all the interruptions. The mop feature does a decent job when the robot actually works, but cleaning the dust bin is a challenge. Given it misses spots in the vaccum feature, the water mixes with dust while mop run, forming a thick reside that is hard to clean, and if there is excess water it leaks at the docking area, creating a mess. All in all, the idea of a robot vaccum is great, but with this one's constant errors and inefficient cleaning, its ends up being more work than its worth. Would only recommend if these issues are fixed.
