Well with the Genie 2 I was sent their slimmed down remotes that aren't Universal. Yes they're more compact but the main problem that bugged me the most was their inability to turn off the TV independently from the DVR. I would have to turn off the satellite box manually let's say if I wanted to switch over and use Google Chrome. It was so annoying.I'm so glad I found these official DirecTV Universal remotes and that they work perfectly with the Genie 2 DVR! I bought the two pack for a great price. These remotes are hefty and well made. They don't feel cheap at all like the Genie remotes which I went through 4!The programing was a breeze. Right out of the packaging they worked with the receiver. No programming needed. I just needed to program the TV. When you're programming the TV just set the slider on the top of the remote to "TV", then follow the steps in the instructions that come included with the remote. Select your TV brand on screen and the tv codes will be displayed. Try each code until you find one that allows you to control the TV volume and you're done!
