Following Tae Min's solo debut last year, Jong Hyun is the next SHINee member to go solo! Known for his strong and distinct vocals, Jong Hyun has many surprises in store for fans. Title song Crazy (Guilty Pleasure) is a medium-tempo retro pop number with funk and neo-soul influences and it features rapper Iron of Show Me the Money 3 fame. Jong Hyun also collaborates with Younha, Wheesung and Zion. T for his first solo mini-album Base. Review: The start of a very special solo career... - I remember back in late 2014 when Jonghyun's first solo outing was announced, and fifteen year-old me was worried that SHINee were breaking up. They hadn't had a Korean comeback in more than a year, Taemin had already launched his solo career, and now Jonghyun seemed to be doing his own thing too. Hindsight's a wonderful thing isn't it and obviously SHINee never went anywhere. Looking back, it should've been inevitable that Jonghyun would end up launching a solo career - he'd already proven he could carry plenty of OSTs on his own, and had long been penning songs for both SHINee and other artists. With the arrival of Base, he got to realize his solo potential. The album itself comes with the photobook and a photocard, with the disc itself containing seven (technically eight) tracks: 1) Deja Boo (ft. Zion T) - A fun, funky R&B opener with some really interesting and experimental musical choices, with both Jonghyun's and Zion T's voices blending together nicely. 2) Crazy (Guilty Pleasure) (ft. IRON) - Not the kind of style I'd expected from Jonghyun for a title track. Rather than gentle R&B or pop, this song is more akin to underground music, and some scenes in the music video even remind me of a classy music club. This is much more mature stuff than we'd ever likely see from SHINee as a group, with a brilliant blend of a dark tone and Jonghyun's much higher and powerful voice. IRON's appearance fits in well, and I love how the song builds and escalates until the last chorus, which feels just a bit more frantic and mad. 3) Hallelujah - One of my overall favourite Jonghyun solo songs, and my personal favourite from this album. Reading the lyrics to Hallelujah, you see just how much Jonghyun was capable of loving and devoting himself to someone. The production and his voice on this song are incredibly powerful and pure, with certain parts of the chorus where he sounds almost like a one-man choir. 4) Love Belt (ft. Younha) - While Hallelujah showed the power and extent of Jonghyun's love, Love Belt shows the quieter, more intimate side. Rather than powerful, both Jonghyun and Younha's voices here are breathy to the point that they sound dreamy, and again the two voices are a faultless blend. 5) Neon - More great lyrics and a nice message, but presented in an interesting way. More than any other track on here, Jonghyun's voice is at its sharpest with many lyrics being delivered with something of a sharp pop. There are some interesting moments to be found musically as well as plenty of equally interesting sound effects throughout. 6) Mono-Drama - Pure R&B and you'll have no complaints from me about it. Jonghyun has a thing for writing relatable lyrics, as exemplified on songs such as End Of A Day, Maybe Tomorrow, #Hashtag or Just For A Day, and Mono-Drama is yet another example of this. The lyrics speaking about a one-sided love and being alone with your affection towards someone, is something I imagine plenty of listeners will be able to relate to. 7) Beautiful Tonight (Bonus Track) - A song perfect to listen to when feeling relaxed and stress-free. The gentle, soothing instrumentation combined with the high register of Jonghyun's voice is a winning combination. 8) Fortune Cookie (Hidden Track) - Hidden away at the end of the album is Fortune Cookie. It's not a particularly long song, but in its brief time, it manages to be incredibly sensual and flustering. It's a great example at how to make R&B sexy. Base is an incredibly confident start for Jonghyun's solo career, managing to deliver great songs and performances, and even experiment with new musical styles and content along the way. It makes great use of its limited track numbers, and contains several highly memorable songs. This album solidified Jonghyun as a brilliant singer-songwriter and he would only go on to craft more excellent music. RIP Jonghyun - you did incredibly well. Review: Amazing as always from Jonghyun :) - Purchased this album a few months ago, I’m so happy with it. The condition is as described and I’m extremely happy to have this in my Jonghyun collection, as he’s my bias in SHINee. The album is fantastic, and my favourite track is Deja-Boo presently though they’re all great, I really recommend Jonghyun’s solo works as well as all of SHINee’s music!

Definitely one of the best albums I've listened to in my life
Definitely one of the best albums I've listened to in my life! It became "a must" purchase and I can't stop enjoying it! I'm sincerely recommending Jonghyun and his music - because of his rich and powerful voice, because of great music and because of lyrics that make you listen to them actually.

funk master J
I love KJH's voice. Here we get to hear some suprises in the colors of his tones and his song writing. He truley is a funk master, especially with "Crazy" which was the most watched K-pop video in America and in the world for January 2015.

Great mini album!
Awesome solo debut! There's a secret track in the last song.

Excelente!
