Convenient for the office
I use art as a way to relieve stress and let my imagination take over for a while, and these pads have been great for little self-guided art meditation sessions in the home, office, or outdoors. I purchased my first pad intending to use it with graphite media, but also ended up testing it with alcohol- and water-based markers, as well as watercolors. As you can see in the photo, even some wet-on-wet watercolor work (with Staedtler Ergosoft Watercolor pencils) does not cause enough buckling to really affect the presentation, but you can tell that the paper has been used for watercolor. I was very impressed by this resilient property of the paper. Regarding alcohol-based markers, you can see some marks on the top of the paper in the attached photo; this is bleed-through from alcohol-based Mepxy markers. Considering how much I used them on the preceding page, and the fact that they were very dark grays (like 08 and 09) this isn't very significant, but in the future I'd probably just put a paper underneath any pages used with this medium. There's also enough tooth in the paper to take a good amount of blending and shading with colored pencils and other media. I really appreciate this fact, ever since I found out that the cause of my colored pencil woes (with streaking and globbing) was not due to the pencils themselves but the paper--I had been using bristol-type surfaces in the past, since I had done a lot of marker work. I find the wire binding strong enough to stand up to being carried around in a bag or backpack. No significant bending has occurred. The corner tips of the pages tend to darken over time if you keep them in a bag, but that's OK with me. There are only 24 pages, but each page can do as much as you need it to. You can plan a city, or illustrate a short biography, start a fire, or compose a love note with each page, and it serves its purpose. It's worth the cost. Overall I would highly recommend this paper and will purchase it again.

Hopeful
Good size, good weight and forgives some erasing. I draw with graphite pencil and the paper accepts it well. I struggle with blending and believe a better quality paper might be the answer. However, blending requires patience and work - it could be me.

Good For Beginners
The only complaint I have about this sketchbook is that the paper smears very easily. If you want to draw on both sides of the paper they will inevitably smear onto one another. Quality good otherwise.

Wish I could subscribe...
These little pads are great - there is typically one in my purse. I draw - daily - but some days I can't be at my drawing table. The paper is high quality - the number of sheets (24) is just right so that the spiral binding is tight and holds up well depsite going in and out of my bag. It's a sturdy enough little pad that I can draw on it on my lap - I don't have to have a table or a book under it. I use sharpies and color pencils mostly - they travel well too. So far ultra fine point sharpies have not bled through the pages at all. I would love to have a stack of these at the ready - they'd be a great gift if you know someone with a daily drawing habit.

Strathmore is the gold standard in paper.
In art school this is the brand that was always recommended above all others. It is Acid free meaning it won't yellow with age. It is good quality. Strathmore makes a wide variety of weights and types of paper even some that use recycled materials (see the ones with the green covers). This pad has a nice thick weight suitable for a finished drawing piece, albeit small only 9x12. Good for carrying in a bag with you when you are on the go. They also make a smaller sizes than this if you like portable. I use this also for inks and it takes them quite well.

Great quality paper
The quality of the paper is outstanding. The medium surface strikes the perfect balance, providing enough tooth for graphite and colored pencils to grip without being overly textured. This makes it versatile for various drawing techniques, from intricate details to smooth shading. The 80lb weight adds a substantial feel to the paper, preventing any unwanted buckling or warping, even with heavy applications of ink or markers. One standout feature is the pad's size – 9"X12" is just right for both small sketches and more intricate drawings. The portability is a definite plus, allowing me to take it anywhere inspiration strikes. The pad is neatly bound, making it easy to flip through pages without worrying about them tearing or falling out. The quality of the paper is consistent across all 24 sheets, ensuring a reliable and enjoyable drawing experience. I appreciate that Strathmore has maintained high standards with this product. It's evident that they understand the needs of artists and have crafted a product that caters to those needs effectively. In terms of value for money, the Strathmore Medium Surface Drawing Paper is a fantastic investment. The quality you get for the price is unmatched. As an artist who goes through paper quite quickly, I find this pad to be both economical and top-notch in terms of performance. Having used several drawing papers in the past, I can confidently say that the Strathmore Medium Surface Drawing Paper stands out in terms of quality, design, and ease of use. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, this pad will elevate your artwork. The balance of texture, weight, and size makes it suitable for a wide range of artistic styles and preferences.
