Okay, how do I open it up to change from steady to flashing mode? Do you just twist it to unscrew it? Tried that, doesn't seem to want to unscrew!

From what I remember, it does unscrew (it was a bit tight, but it did come apart with some effort). It wasn't threaded, but simply twisted a few degrees and then the parts separated.
