Review: Excellent 4K for the money! - This is the second 4K projector I am trying. I have an in focus X 10 1080 P projector which I was looking to replace. I also have a review on the ViewSonic 747. Pros: Compared to the other XRP pixel shifting projectors, this one by far has the darkest black levels and the least gray border around the screen that I have seen. (ALL xrp based projectors will have a light gray boarder around the picture.) overall I find The black levels are excellent, the colors are phenomenal, and I find the contrast to be exceptional. If you’re looking for a budget 4K projector for home theater, this is it. It is bright and can even be used with some lights on. IMO the pj is quieter than all my previous projectors, some of which (crt) required a hush box! Lens shift and EXCELLENT focus make this pj easy to adjust. It also has digital keystone and image shift is absolutely needed. Cons: There definitely are crt and digital 1080 P projectors that have better black levels with similar contrast and color quality. I’m going to tell you that my opinion is those half million to one contrast type numbers are only under certain conditions and are generally exaggerated. Do some research and find where people that have had the equipment have actually measure these projectors. There is some light spill from the unit, but I do not find it objectionable at all. Summary: If you’re on a budget for 4K home theater this is an excellent value. It does support 3-D under certain conditions. If you’re looking for a presentation projector where brightness is a huge factor (and black levels do not matter), and you’re on a budget, you might be better off with the ViewSonic 747 . But for movies and TV and a light controlled room, I absolutely love this projector! To say that I love this projector is to say a lot, because I have had everything from crt like the sony 1030, 1031, 1272, d50, barco, benq, and a bunch of digital / others even including other optima projectors. There is no question in my mind that no (current, reasonably priced) digital projector is going to match the black level of CRT. But this projectors compromises on that certainly make up for the ease-of-use, the size, resolution, out of box color accuracy, focus and many many other factors. Again, I love this projector and I would highly recommend it!
Review: Great 4k projector - I have only been using it for a few days, but everything looks great on the UHD50. It has a great picture out of the box and made minimal changes to it. It's definitely bigger than my last Optoma projector (Optoma HD25e), but I knew that going into it. Has far as playing 1080p games or watching satellite TV in 1080p it looks no different than my 1080p Optoma projector I had before this. I haven't tested it out on any up converting regular blu rays. If you are expecting this projector to make regular 1080p content look extra special you might be disappointed. Where this really shines is with 4k UHD media. We have watched a few 4k UHD Blu rays and they look fantastic. I've also watched a few 4k tv shows and those looked great too. I really look forward to watching some 4k sports on this thing. For the price, this thing does a great job. I haven't seen any other 4k projectors to compare this too, but from the research I've done, it compares favorably with any other projector in this price range. I'd definitely recommend this projector. Its the third Optoma that I have owned. The first projector of theirs I owned has issues with dead pixels, but it was still under warranty and they fixed it. And the 1080p one that I owned before this worked for 5 years without a single problem. I've been impressed with there projectors each time I've upgraded to a new one.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty good, with annoying quirks, especially the "fake" input
*by D***E on November 16, 2018*

Picture quality is good. The 4k quality is why you buy this projector. HDR and stability are NOT why you buy this projector. HDR: Not sure ANY projector is supposed to really excel here. The technology is supposed to work for TV's that can control the brightness of individual pixels. I cant speak for all projectors, but I can say this one doesnt really seem to do much with HDR enabled. Some reviews even hint that HDR looks worse on this projector when enabled. I think its a toss up. Dark scenes get better, color contrast gets a little better, but the overall picture suffers just a little bit. So its even. Stability: This thing is a basket case. I have so far used it with an Xbox one X and anthem avr720, so PERHAPS one of these other things is to blame. BUT, since the projector ends up "crashing" half the time (even using it with my PC), I blame the projector. I mean, who ever heard of a projector crashing? Picture will go dark, go sparkle fuzzy, change to the wrong resolution (720p/1080p) etc or lose HALF the picture. Sometimes plugging and unplugging the HDMI cable (which requires a ladder, uh) works, but other times a restart is required, which is a real date killer. It TAKES FOREVER TO BOOT UP! But it seems to happen when the Xbox changes frame rates due to source material. Also, this seems to have maybe started when I needed to use a 90 angle hdmi adapter (generic and audioquest). You will have more problems if you need two angles. The picture may never even show up. Lastly, the HDMI cable DOES MATTER. Im using 12 feet, and I went through THREE amazon cables when finally the stupid $100 Audioquest cable is the one that work. Its absolutely ridiculous that you need an expensive cable for this thing to work right. The "fake input": The instruction manual will lead you to believe that both inputs are the same. I even called customer service, and they "verified" that both inputs are "exactly the same." Input 1 is NOT the same as input 2. Input 1 will NOT accept 60HZ and has a hard time transmitting HDR. No matter what source, what cable and/or whether or not you go through an AVR. You will get 4k, but not 60 HZ. HDR was hit or miss on this input. You will know you have the wrong input when you try to play something at 24fps (most hollywood movies) and the picture is all juddery. You will also need to fiddle with plugging and unplugging to get HDR. It took FOREVER for me to believe my eyes and doubt the very people that make the projector. In case they need proof, I attached a video. Input 1 is no good for smooth, HDR 4k material.
