I'm pleased to say that this edition of The Fugitive does not have an excess of these elements and looks superb. It has a very cinematic quality, which I imagine is akin to watching it in the cinema in 1993. The sound, which includes Dolby Atmos, is also excellent. A must-have for 4K collectors. Review: The Fugitive (2023 4K UHD/Blu-ray). - A firm favourite since I was a kid in 1993, this is a tidy re-release of a superbly made, entertaining thriller that’s lost none of its shine. Harrison Ford is Dr. Richard Kimble, accused and convicted of murdering his wife. When an accident while being transported to prison lets him escape, he begins his search for the one-armed man who really killed his wife. But U.S Marshall Sam Gerard (an Oscar winning Tommy Lee Jones) is also searching…..for Kimble. Who will get their man first? Made in the age before CGI took over it’s probably arguable some action sequences are a little low key for 2023 audiences, but in 1993 the train crash sequence and dam stunts were spectacular and still hold up. The rest of the film is a classic pursuit where two resourceful, intelligent men stand in opposition to each other trying to get to their goal. The story holds up, and performances are strong with a focus on the characters rather than silly twists and solid support (including a small role early on in Julianne Moore’s career) keeping the suspense up through to the finale. Hugely entertaining. The new edition has the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray. Film itself looks terrific, bright and clean (maybe a bit too bright but not a complaint). Extras on the Blu-ray are a combo of original features and slightly more recent ones. Two behind the scenes featurettes featuring main cast and crew, a commentary with director Andrew Davis and Tommy Lee Jones, the pilot episode of the short-lived 2001 television remake of ‘The Fugitive’, and trailer. It’s fine enough, but doesn’t take long to go over. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Finally, a fantastic 4K transfer of a cracking thriller *by F***E on 19 November 2023* Owned this on the original shoddy UK blu-ray which was dire. Got the 2013 US Remastered blu-ray which was a lot better. I won't go into the plot as you prob already know it. Amazing how the film got made since they had numerous writers, re-writes and were even re-writing scenes on the day of shooting. I was nervous about this coming out on 4K as it's one of my favourite films. Read a few reviews the last few days where critics were giving it 5 out of 5 etc. Got my copy 2 days early before release date thanks to Amazon. I needn't have worried. The transfer is spectacular and I'd give it 10 out of 10. No problem. What a relief to finally get this with such a perfect picture.
