Merriam -Webster Intermediate Dictionary
This item was exactly as described. This hard covered dictionary has clear, well worded definitions. The definitions are in plain language with examples that make it easy to use a new word in a sentence. Especially helpful for writing essays for middle school assignments and expanding understanding for reading assignments.

Great big book just full of words.
There are soooo many words in this book. It is also very heavy so it is handy to flatten craft projects that try to roll up on you.

Pretty good, just wish it was maybe a little higher reading level
This is a pretty good dictionary, though by the time kids can make use of it they could probably just use a normal adult dictionary. However this one does have the advantage that having fewer words makes lookup faster, and the “inappropriate” “giggle words” are removed which helps reduce distractions. Compared to the elementary school version, all the pictures and trivia callouts are removed to make more space for more plain text definitions. Entries are trimmed down a bit to remove rare, archaic, or excessively pedantic variant definitions. I think the target Lexile reading level for this book is probably a minimum of 700-800L so even if it’s “middle school” plenty of 4-5th graders would find it more useful than the elementary school dictionary. I’d recommend buying things like this at least 1 year before you think it will be needed because that way you’ll get full use out of it and it could end up being needed sooner than you think.

Great dictionary
The heavy duty cover, and the internal pages are of good quality. The print is easily viewable. My children find great use for it.
