I did just that. Got an old pc with an old version and got all my old tapes onto an portable hard drive and then transfered them to my PC. make sure that the old pc has a suitable slot for the firewire card. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Works well but not exactly as described... *by P***O on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 March 2019* I purchased this IEEE1394 card to transfer some old DV tapes onto my PC and it works perfectly but, please be aware of the following:1. The product description says 3 ports but the product picture appears to show 4 x 6 wire connectors but the one I was sent has 3 x 6 wire and 1 x 4 wire connectors as shown in the attached photo. There are 2 x 6 wire and 1 x 4 wire connectors presented externally and 1 x 6 connector available internally.2. There is a driver and support CD but it only has details for Windows installations, not Linux. A version U-Lead Video Studio is included on the CD.I use Linux Mint 19.1 currently and it did recognise the board straight away but I had a few problems initially getting the capture software (Kino) to see the IEEE1394 ports. A little research revealed that it is surprisingly easy to get it set up so no problems there.Once installed, it worked perfectly and I had no problems transferring my DV recordings.
