The McGuire Sisters were one of the most popular of the many female vocal groups who came to prominence in the early 50s and enjoyed huge success through the next few years on both sides of the Atlantic. Modelled initially on the Andrews Sisters, the three sisters from Ohio, Christine, Dorothy and Phyllis, learnt to sing together in the church where their mother was a minister, and got their break via the famed Arthur Godfrey Talent Show. They had their first hits in 1954, going on to rack up over 40 Billboard and Cash Box chart entries through to 1962, with several making the UK charts. This great value 54-track 2-CD set, with extensive booklet notes and discographical and chart information, includes all those hits, plus a selection of their other popular A & B sides released on the Coral label during that time. It naturally includes their landmark No. 1 hits "Sincerely" and "Sugartime". It's a collection that not only provides a fine showcase for their distinctive talents, but also captures the spirit of the times, as traditional pop music vied for position with the emerging power of rock 'n' roll in the charts.

You cannot buy the McGuire Sisters in Australia
I just like the music from the 50's & 60's. I had LP's by this group but none are available on CD in Australia.

"The Best of the McGuire Sisters"(1953-'62)
"This beautifully done CD is nostalgia personified. Our late grandparents often played their McGuire sisters LP's on the weekends, which brought so much joy and happiness to our family. Hearing the McGuire sister's major hits: 'Sincerely' and 'Sugartime' again, reminded us of another time and place, when everything seemed so much simpler and less complicated. BRAVA to the McGuire sisters, for their beautiful harmonies, glorious voices and loving spirit which shines so brightly in this CD, and continues to echo in our hearts and minds, listening to this wonderful legacy CD. Enjoy!!!"

Fabulous!
I love it. This CD has all their hits, plus so many other songs I had never heard before. I remember hearing their hits from the 50's when I was growing up. I wasn't really paying attention back then, but now when I listen to them I think, "Wow, what fabulous voices they had! How I wish I could have seen them perform." At least I got to see them on one of those PBS specials with songs from the 50's.

Good female harmonising.
If you like the Andrews Sisters, the Fontane Sisters, the Chordettes etc., then you can expect more of the same here. Some of the material is not all that special, but it is good value for money, and pleasant listening.
