Tragedy hits in the most brutal way, and all she loves is stripped away from her.She is forced against into the Sierra Mountains with 2 men, and hurt badly. When they stumble on a cabin, she meets Alex. He has been living in seclusion for the past years, carrying his own burden and grief.This story is all about survival, the will to live and overcome the worst that could ever happen to you, and finding love again in the most unexpected way.Sierra was a read that pulled me in from the first page. I was overwhelmed by the awfulness of what happened to Alyssa, and kept turning page after page to see how Dean would turn this tragic story into a swoon worthy happily ever after. But she did! And she did so in such a way that I was left stunned. I’ve read this book twice already, and I feel like I need to put this on my reading list again, because it was such a captivating read. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A heart-wrenching roller coaster story I want to read again *by C***S on Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2013* Devastating! Heart-wrenching! Amazing! Fantastic! These are just a couple of the words to describe this book. Alyssa seems to have a perfect life--married to an amazing man who adores her and her 2-year-old son, Clay. They are her world. At a rest stop in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, her life changes forever. Her world is taken from her when 2 men (Pa and Adam) abduct her small family. Forced to endure horrific abuse and tragedy, Alyssa finds herself alone in the wilderness with her 2 evil captors as they make their way towards their community where she will become Adam's "Eve."Born a fighter, Alyssa escapes twice, but is recaptured both times and beaten terribly. Despairing of hope, a small miracle happens that lifts her heart enough to not give up. I don't want to ruin any of the suspense from here on out. Let me just say that I didn't think I would be able to keep reading because her life gets so terrible that it's painful to read about. But READ ON! This story was amazing to see the resilience of the human spirit and love when Alyssa gets a 2nd chance in life (and so does Alex--a man who has rejected society and his painful past in favor of living alone in the mountains with only a helicopter drop of supplies once a year).This will go down as one of my favorite reads this year! Taylor Dean writes characters that I always connect with and love with all my heart. Their pain is my pain; their joy is mine. The plot is well thought out and definitely has the serious touch of reality experiences with lots of humour. It sets you up for one outcome then surprises you with an unsuspecting conclusion. As you begin the first chapter, life for Alyssa and her family appears incapable of getting any better until you realize that sometimes life is too good to be true.She has the perfect husband who her father believes is beneath her a son she adores and the outlook for the future is perfect. Her father is a piece of work, more concerned about appearances and his social standing as opposed to the happiness of his only daughter. Unbeknownst to her, while vacationing she becomes the target of Pa, a psychopathic narcissist who kills her family and kidnaps her to recreate 'Adam and Eve'. Against all odds she refuses to become a victim and makes several attempts to escape.Enter her hero Dr. Alex Kendrick a man on self imposed exile from the real world living in the remoteness of the woods. Death seems to follow him and he's afraid to love again until he sees Alyssa. Whilst aiding in her recovery from trauma suffered at the hands of her kidnappers, he falls in-love and dares to dream that happiness could once again be his. They have soo much in common and seem kindred spirits, yet to achieve this happily ever after Alex will have to face the demons of his past.Together they set out to conquer their past however difficult. When they think they're free to love, tragedy rears its ugly head and again they both have to overcome. This test however, will determine whether unconditional love can conquer all.
