Good reception on AM and FM, and sounds good for its size. I use it everyday. I decided to use the barrel jack power port on the side with a 4.5v adapter to eliminate the inside power transformers radio noise while listening to AM. Little did I know that the barrel jack would try to charge the batteries inside the unit. I picked the radio up and noticed it was warm. I unplugged it and opened the battery door. I put a piece of paper towel in the back to keep the battery door from buzzing while playing music, and a good thing I did. The batteries were warm and spraying an oily substance all over the battery compartment. I heard a hissing noise coming out of them, so I rushed outside and flung them into the snow. I didn't read anywhere in the instructions that the little port on the side was for charging.
