It's about the right level of 'scary' for a baby/toddler, as it raises interest without being too gory or terrifying. The story ends with a reassuring 'and it was all a dream' scenario, which is comforting to young children. A nice Halloween gift, but a good read all year round. I'd say aimed at children under 6. The illustrations are terrific, and the cutout books really add to the pleasure of the book. The only thing is that the tape that holds them together can let loose, so check it carefully when you get it to make sure it is on correctly.
