J.J. Cale's unique guitar playing and vocal style has influenced generations of artists, most notably Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits). Cale's solo career spans nearly 3 decades and 12 acclaimed LPs; his 1st comprehensive career anthology packs 50 digitally remastered tracks (including 6 unreleased cuts) on 2 CDs, with a 24-page, full-color booklet. Highlights: "After Midnight" and "Cocaine" (massive hits for Eric Clapton), plus "Magnolia," "Cajun Moon," "Sensitive Kind" and much more. Review: This is an anthology, not a compilation, and brilliant. - I originally intended to give this as a gift to a friend who is unfamiliar with J.J.Cale's music but have managed to persuade myself that they would prefer something different and am going to keep it for myself. Although I own most of his cds and didn't think I needed a compilation this two cd anthology is cunningly arranged as something good to listen to. Unlike many compilations this seemed to have been put together with input from the musician. Although it follows the chronology of the albums it doesn't just strip out the best known/most covered tracks (although they are all on here) and put them in sequence but leavens these with less well known numbers. At a guess, and of course the reclusive J.J. gives no information, he didn't want this to be just another greatest hits album and selected accordingly. He always put together albums that were designed to have enough light and shade to make them a complete and enjoyable listening experience and this set follows this idea brilliantly. Even though I didn't think I needed to own this anthology I most definitely do. This is probably the closest I am ever going to get to finding out J.J.Cale's own favourites and why he likes them so I find it a fascinating listen. ( The excellent documentary dvd "To Tulsa and Back" gives a few more clues too, and is really worth watching. ) There is far more here than I could have expected and I am delighted with it. I now understand the difference between an anthology and a mere compilation. So even if you already own all J.J.Cale's work, as I do, this is still an excellent buy and the closest any of us are going to get to hearing what he liked best from his own recordings. As we sadly are unlikely to hear anything from him in the future this is probably one of the few ways left to us to understand a little more about the music, technical wizardry and tastes of the consummate musician we have lost. This would probably be a good way of exploring Cale's music for the first time too as it is great value for money with 50 tracks and good sound quality for a very reasonable price. I am going to recommend this to everyone from confirmed fan's to people who have only heard covers of his songs and want to hear the original music. Review: Great album. - Great album.

Great Collection
If you've always fancied a JJ Cale album (not to be confused with John Cale of Velvet Underground fame!!) then this is a perfect place to start. This is a fantastic collection and selection of tracks, for a great price. For a huge number of people this will be the only JJ Cale album they'll ever need, so they can say they have, and enjoy his music. For others this album collection might be the start of a wonderful journey of exploration into this master musician's back catalogue. Enjoy the journey!!!!

Class and quality.
Perhaps it's all been said: JJ Cale was the master of the JJ Cale sound and this is an outstanding compilation of his super-cool music. I venture to add something though: if you appreciate Mark Knopfler's solo records there is a pretty good chance that this is also to your taste. The man clearly had his own style but there is a fine balance of balance, continuity and contrast to keep the ears happy. Highlights? There are several and you will find your own, of course. For me, Mama Don't (Allow) has one of the funniest moments you could ever hope for.

A World According To J J scale.
Arrived very quickly, thank you. What can one say about J J Cale that hasn’t been said before? A totally unique artist, a highly accomplished guitarist, gifted with the ability to write great songs. The most remarkable thing about the man is in that he delivers his music in a fashion best described as slightly subdued, by the impact these songs make is more reminiscent of the sounding cymbals!!! How can that be? Well, the man himself would be the best one to ask, but, sadly, he departed this world already. This leaves us with a question unanswered. Although I have all of his studio albums, it did not detract me from going out and grab a copy of his anthology. It is definitely one of my most remarkable records(I have over 2000 in all), and I have yet to come across something else approaching such sonic beauty!! The man departed, but his music remains for all of his fans to continue to enjoy for many years to come. I hope that in the future his recordings will be given a sonic revamp, which, surely, they deserve very much.

Excellant value.
I’ve always been an Eric Clapton fan and was only aware of JJ Cale through the fact he had written many of Eric’s recordings. I enjoyed the collaborations that they did together so I thought it was time I investigated the source. This is a very good place to start a double cd of many of JJ,s superb back catalogue. You really can’t go wrong with this purchase and I would advise anyone who has yet to venture into the world of JJ Cale to start here. Great music.

A great-value two CD Anthology released over twenty years ago
It's great to hear J.J. Cale performing his own material as it is so often better-known when being performed by other artists. This excellent value two CD Anthology covers fifty tracks making it more than just a Best Of or Greatest Hits and it really is a showcase Anthology of the man's best work. Taking it's title from one of J.J. Cale's best known tracks - Anyway The Wind Blows – this compilation has been around for over twenty years, so was released long before his death in 2013. Eric Clapton was a big fan and you can clearly hear how J.J. Cale's style influenced the likes of Dire Straits and Chris Rea when you play these tracks through. Currently five and a half quid from Amazon for the CD version, if you purchase directly from Amazon rather than a third-party seller, you will also get the MP3 version AutoRipped to your Amazon Music Library to play straight away – what could be better! If you only buy one J.J. Cale album this is probably the best one to go for.
