OXO Tot Fork and Spoon Set - Opal

As a first-time parent, I often make the incorrect assumption that many products for kids are created equal. This is one case where i was pretty wrong. It is easy for us to take for granted something as simple as a spoon. You scoop up food, transport food to your mouth, rinse, repeat. Easy, right? Not for a 1 or a 2 year-old. This simple sequence of moves takes a pretty good understanding of how gravity works, how to get food on the utensil, the coordination required to get said food somewhat near your mouth, and the patience to try again when you fail. My daughter had none of this and eating with anything other than her fingers was a frustrating experience for her and us alike. We had been gifted a number of utensils including the ubiquitous Ikea plastic utensils as well as some pricier and more elegant forks and spoons. Here are some of the problems we encountered, that the OXO set fixed: * The utensil was too long: My 2-year-old has the coordination of a drunk using their opposite hand. The longer the utensil, the more food ended up on the floor instead of her mouth, so she gave up trying. The OXO set is short which helps her get nom noms to their intended destination. * The tines on the fork are useless: Many plastic utensils have this problem. Now, a 1 or a 2 year old will probably scoop rather than jab at their food, but it is nice to have the option. The OXO fork is actually more of a spork so it works well in either case. * The bowl of the spoon is too small: Maybe we were using spoons intended for infants, but there are a lot of spoons out there that don't maximize the shape of their scoop. Too shallow, all the food falls out. Too deep, and its hard to use. Too small and it is not worth the effort required. The OXO spoon seems just right. Maybe they researched and tested this, or maybe they just got lucky, but we don't care either way. * The handles shape is wrong: This one is a bit tough to describe but unless your munchkin positions the fork just right in their hand, it just wont work right. I think the shape of this set helps her get it right the first time with her monkey grip. The build quality and materials seem solid, so you should be able to use these over time as your family grows. Recommended.

Got these for my 3 year old and she loves them. Easy to hold and use. There's a slight curve in the design that's more ergonomic. They've held up well in the dishwasher. Feel like a quality product.

This set is perfect for my toddler! I cannot count the number of the times I went to our local stores disappointed at all the flimsy and overpriced plastic sets! Once I gave in and bought spoons that seemed to be of good quality only to become frustrated at the stains that would not come off after washing and the paint that chipped off. These utensils, however, are washed at least 5 times a day and are still in perfect condition. My toddler grips them very well, unlike the others we have tried. I also like the simple yet cute design. My daughter likes the pink and I like that they aren't covered in elmo or princesses. Im sure I will purchase another set soon!

Many reviewers mention the inadequacy of the fork, but I beg to differ! I find the fork difficult to use for steaks and that's about it. The fork works very well for toddlers who have the dexterity and the developmental capacity to target their fruit and steamed vegetables with the fork. The fork wasn't a good choice when my daughter was only 13 months old, but with time and practice she became an expert by 15 months old. At times it's difficult for me to stab a mango without it going all over the place, but I observe my daughter who patiently takes the time to hover her fork directly over the mango and stabs it with precision - developmental achievements are priceless! The spoon is a little rounder and overall bigger than most, but that's another thing a toddler can learn to figure out, the world isn't perfect. Overall, the set is a perfect life lesson for toddlers - adaptability is key in this world. If parents find it difficult to challenge and nurture their toddlers development, I don't know what to recommend... The neuronal connections my daughter has to go through to figure out this specific fork and spoon make this product worth 10 stars.

I had been looking for toddler utensils shaped like this for a very long time, and I really do love this set. The stainless steel feels very high quality, and both the spoon and fork have a great depth and a very comfortable handle shape that makes them easy for little hands to use. The color is also beautiful and matched our plates and cups perfectly. My daughter really likes them, and we use them every day. However, I’ve now run into the same issue with a second toddler utensil brand - the silicone on the back of the handles stains from food almost immediately after the first use, and unfortunately the marks do not wash off afterward. That part was honestly disappointing because otherwise this set would have been absolutely perfect for us.

My daughter is 13mo’s old, and has been doing baby led weaning since 6mo’s. We introduced utensils right away, and had been using a different fork/spoon set, and it taught her the purpose of utensils, but they didn't function very well. This fork and spoon have been great! She is able to grip them well, and the fork actually picks up food. The only negative thing I can think of is that if foods haven't cooled completely, like a bowl of oatmeal, the metal on the spoon will be a little too hot for my girl, and she won't want to put it in her mouth. That is not a reason to take a star off for me though. Washes great in the dishwasher! I've gotten more to leave at my inlaws and parents houses. I now have a 13month old that can use her fork and spoon with confidence!

So cute! I like the pink. Well made. I bought to help me take small bites after my bariatric surgery. Dishwasher safe is a plus.

Love these. My 16 month old grandson is transitioning to utensils. I've tried a few different brands and this is my favorite. They are sturdy, not too sharp (as our regular forks might be), the perfect size as well as being dishwasher safe.

Comprei este conjunto de garfo e colher para a minha filha de 1 ano e 4 meses e amei! Já tentei comprar conjunto de talher de outras marcas, as colheres eram ok, mas os garfos eram difíceis de acertar...ela consegue se alimentar sozinha, a anatomia dele é excelente, e na parte de trás (cor de rosa) tem silicone que impede que o garfo escorregue. O cabo e mais grosso, ideal para crianças que estão começando a se alimentar sozinhos...adorei! Entrega super rápida!
