Take a guess what you think you'll need, then drop it down. I got the square 12 watters, and could easily have gotten away with 6 watts to light a hallway. They DO give a nice even wash, but I've already learned to keep my eyes down when walking past. I may just spring for a couple of the smaller units and move the 12 watters somewhere else, or add some sort of surface mount shade to tone them down.Worth mentioning - the little clips that hold the lights into the ceiling were a head scratcher. I found a video that shows how to put them on that was extremely helpful, even if you don't understand the language.[...]One caution - these lights put out a LOT of RF interference. Not really an issue here as I just used them when using the hallway and always turn them off when done, but I can see where that could be a real issue for someone using them to light a room with audio electronics. I noticed this when I was installing the lights and had the FM radio going. I installed the lights, cut a hole in my ceiling to accommodate them. Turned them on and wow. Bright and stylish.I purchased dimmable so i did not have to worry about being too bright and then when needed I could turn them all the way up.The lights were wired to a dimmer switch....The lights began to blink rapidly upon trying to dim. then shut off and now not working at all.So now not so impressed. and i have holes in my ceiling and now what?I will be returning these immediately...and i will decide what to do with the holes in my new ceiling.Oh by the way. I purchase 8 of these lights. 2 did not come with clips.
