You teach them the protocol and then use it again and again so they don't have to learn the activity just the content. One example is a "thin slide". Two students work on the slideshow together. 1. Each looks up their individual given topic and adds their info to their slide. 2. On third slide they create a Venn diagram together and discuss. 3. Each writes their own paragraph. They learn this framework with something easy to compare and then use it with content. This can then be used to compare/contrast anything. Learn the strategies and then use them again and again. This is an easy read that you can pick up and read a section tatty interests you. Totally worth the money and I just purchased volume 2. This book is full of practical activities to deepen students’ learning. It supports Magana’s work as outlined in the book Disruptive Classroom Technologies. As a former AVID teacher and District Director as well as Marzano practitioner (back in the day when I was still teaching), I particularly appreciate the array of instructional practices shared in this book.
