The base plate stays on body at all times, and works well with my tripod. While the actual QR portion with two peak designs toggles stays attached to the camera strap. This allows me to switch between the traditional strap attachment locations on camera body (working well with shorter prime lenses) and the FALCAM QR attachment option (allowing longer/heavier lenses to hang naturally downward) This setup also allows me to more quickly remove the strap altogether for awkward shots in precarious positions. As an added bonus the locking mechanism stays open once the camera is removed from the QR plate, so you only need to depress the button to release it.
