The Art Deco style took off before the first world war after the curls and organic forms of Art Nouveau.It consists of a return to classical rigour: Symmetry, classical orders (often very stylised).The decor is severely framed by its creators and its drawing is inspired by cubist geometry.The colours shimmer. The main influence is the avant-garde painting of the beginning of the century, i.e. cubism, Russian constructivism and Italian futurism.The most obvious trademark is its geometry, largely inherited from cubism. Art Deco used new materials (silver, metal or chrome, stainless steel, palladium, aluminium and lacquer). Famous Art Deco jewellers include Raymond Templier and Jean Després.
