It was recommended to reinstall rivets when attaching the splitter onto the car even though there are 10 or so screws that holds it in place, there are also 10 factory rivets holding the stock splitter to the bumper. After drilling out the old rivets, i wanted to install new ones for safety. I bought this rivet tool along with a bag of plastic rivets off desertcart and easily installed the rivets. The tougher job was drilling out the old ones. But this tool is very easy to use. Install rivet into the tool, squeeze once, release, then squeeze again and the tail of the rivet breaks off and you're done. Rivet was nice and tight into my new splitter. Finally a tool that works the first time. Needle nose plyers don't work. Any other options?** A: Is the stem in the rivet or in the tool? In the rivet, use a pin punch to push it back thru the head of the rivet to the underside of the rivet. If in the tool, unscrew the nose cap, hold the tool POINTING DOWN (gravity helps here) and spread the two jaws apart (utility knife blade works) w/o pushing the jaws back into the tool and the stem will be released. If the stem has fallen deeper into the tool, shame on you. Continue here by wedging a tooth pick in the side of the jaws to keep them open, make sure tooth pick does not protrude into center of jaws. Now shake it while pointing jaws down to make stem fall out. If the jaws are pushed in then the stem will be stuck inside. Whenever using the tool, always keep pointed down when removing stem. And don't foget to remove the stem before putting it away. Surprises like this occur when you forget and it justs screws up your day next time you go to use it. Check the stem of each rivet before inserting into the tool by simply grasping between thumb & forefinger a pulling the stem thru your fingers. If there is a burr on the stem, don't use it or clean off the burr. Hint - the cheapest supplier of these rivets is an automotive paint supply store. Most expensive- car dealer parts dept! **Q: The tool does not cut the stem! How does it work?** A: Just put the rivet in place, insert long side of the rivet into the tool and squeeze. It will set-up rivet. Regarding cutting the rivet. Sometimes it cuts, sometimes it does not. In this case just cut the rivet with any kind of cutter. **Q: Can someone tell me the difference between this tool and the normal rivet tool** A: It's only for plastic rivets...
