ELECOM Trackball Replacement Ruby Ball Bearing Unit,Compatible IST Trackball M-IT10 and M-IT11, Gray (M-RS10)

なんとも複雑な感想になってしまいますが、ISTの最大の特徴であるベアリングモデルを購入したのですが、シャーッと回転する音が気になったのとカーソルの挙動が落ち着かない印象で、どうにもしっくりこない… とはいえせっかく買ったものですし、こちらの人工ルビーユニットに交換してみたのですが、おお、使い慣れたいつものトラックボールだ！ これが好評なのか悪評なのか自分でも判断が難しいのですが、今現在はとても気に入って愛用しています。 たまに気分転換にまたベアリングに戻してみるのもいいかも。

After about 10 minutes of fiddling I got the installation figured out and it went together in about two minutes. The action is some what smoother but a tad slower. For anyone familiar with folding knives it is like the difference between a PB bushing and ceramic bearing action. Both are good but the roller bearings feel a little bit crisper. I'm leaving them in for now and will update if necessary. One day after installing them I took them out and put the bearings back in. Much prefer the looser feel of the originals.

I got a set of these for my Huge Pro, after my original Huge got on my nerves with poor wireless performance in my new desk setup. The mouse is great, but the roller bearings feel jittery. Okay, so what to do? Install the same ruby co tact bearings they had in the original Huge! Right? Well, sort of. These bearings are ruby, sure (UV testing show it). They fit in roughly the same positions as the old Huge. The feel is good in motion. But, contrary to the whole concept of hardened contact bearings, there's friction involved. I have to press into the ball just more than I'd say is comfortable to get the needed traction to overcome the initial friction of the bearings. There's a 'stickiness' when starting motion as you overcome a coefficient of friction that should not exist with these. Oddly, I can use the old ball from my Huge in my Huge Pro and these bearings feel far better. This makes me wonder if the ball itself changed to favor the roller bearings and not rubies. However, better is not great, and both balls feel great in the old mouse. I think the build of these may be to blame. The original Huge had rubies embedded into the plastic directly (maybe glued, maybe heat set?). These have the removable interface to house them, and they feel in there tight... but the i terface itself can tilt and rock in the slots they install into. This adds a certain slop where the rubies may be out of ideal alignment for proper contact with the trackball. That slop doesn't matter with roller bearings, because rollers use that slop to function. If they made a more secure mounting option, these might fare better. I'm hesitant to glue (UV resin, rather) these into the mouse permanently so they slop is removed. Also worth noting a flaw: If you remove these bearings, there is a strong chance the rubies will pop out the housings from the shock force. They are not secured well, and a hint of super glue can fix that if you apply it carefully (I used the end of a toothpick) before setting the ruby back in place. This further makes me thing the build quality or engineering are not quite right with these replaceable bearings. Installation is easy once you understand how the sockets work. Place the bottom in most of the way, then rock the top into place; the whole mechanism just sets when doing that. As for removal, the provided hook tool works fine—just commit to the fact that the bearing will violently pop out and fall into the trackball well rather than stay in your control. I cover the well with my second hand to contain the buggers, as a roller bearing flew a few feet away, even. Easy to do, just also easy to lose parts on removal as well. I'll keep using the roller bearings for now. These ruby bearings will likely replace them when the rollers get sluggish, and I'll be gluing the rubies in permanently to make them lower tolerance. Shame these involve risking a permanent installation to (hopefully) work properly.

ベアリングは買った時からゴリっとする感覚が有り、ずっと気になっていた。 ベアリングは三つそれぞれが一つの方向にしか回らないので向きによってはどのベアリングも正回転しない状況でゴリっと抵抗が増えてしまう。 ちょうどそのゴリっとする位置に小さいボタン押下や３DCADで微調整したい時などが当たると何度もやり直したりしてストレスが溜まるばかりだった。 イライラがつのり別のトラックボールマウスを探している時にこの交換パーツを見つけてダメ元で入れ替えてみた所、引っ掛かる所も無くなり快適な使い心地になった。 ベアリングを取り外す時は先人のコメント通りとても固くて大変だ。 そして私の場合、ベアリング→人工ルビーに変えた直後は全体的に重く引っ掛かる感じで完全に失敗したと思ったが再度、全部取り外して丁寧にやり直した結果上記のように快適になった。 もしかして人工ルビーが重くて使いにくいと感じる人は一度取付けをやり直してみたら快適になるんじゃないか？と思った。 あ〜、スルスル動くタマタマは気持ちエエな〜。

不器用なので素手で交換できずに先曲がりのピンセットが必要だとかはいいのですが、ベアリングのゴロゴロした感触に代わってガサガサした感触です 残念
