Science Comics: Dogs: From Predator to Protector [Hirsch, Andy] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Science Comics: Dogs: From Predator to Protector Review: FANTASTIC series of books --- graphic novels but with science education instead of fiction plots - Gorgeous illustrations. Very informative. A great way to get reluctant readers interested in science. I have read the Dogs, the Dinosaurs, the Plague, the Volcanoes, and the Bats editions of Science Comics. Dogs, Dinosaurs, and Bats are the best. There is something to learn and enjoy for all ages. What I like best is the historical notes (telling you what people knew or thought of the subject at different points in history) and how various theories are presented (such as evolution, behavior of extinct animals, etc.). I enjoyed the Zoo Books series as a kid (covering different animals) and I think these Science Comics are even better than those. Review: Fantastic illustration & excellent narrative! - Great book! Gifted it to my 8 year-old twin nephews. They're brainy kids so they loved the comics & learning about science of biology. Great way to introduce basics of biology & absolutely engaging for dog fans. Some words (such as scientific terminology) can prove a bit difficult for early elementary/pre-school age kids, but it does offer explanation on what they means.

Fun way to learn
She enjoyed the story was told by a dog and learned lots of new information about dogs. She has asked for the cat version as well.

8 year old boy - Loves
My 8 year old son loves this series. He has read this book multiple times. He especially loves the comic-book style with vivid pictures. There is a lot of content, so when he re-reads, he is learning more and more.

Detailed and engaging
The whole family enjoyed this book. It does have a more detailed explanation of genetic inheritance than I expected. Fortunately, the authors point to examples of dog breeds to reinforce their points.

Our 9 year old son is into the Science Comics series and is always telling us what is happening when reading this book.

I liked the Dinosaur Science Comics book better
Very informative for sure, but not as kid friendly as the first Science Comics book I read with my daughter (Dinosaurs). This one gets a little dull with how specific he gets in describing inheritance (DNA, alleles, etc). I was hoping for a broader, more fun, overall approach for my 8 year old.

I was extremely satisfied to say the least
I was looking for a science-y comic that met my expectations for researched backed facts combined with an engaging story line. I was extremely satisfied to say the least, so I handed it off to my 7 year old for the final test. She definitely loved it and gave it an A++; then requested the others in this series!
