When a crime needs solving, thereโs only one dog for the job! Join Nell the Detective and help solve the mystery of the missing books. There once was a dog with a keen sense of smell. She was known far and wide as Detective Dog Nell. Peterโs dog Nell has an amazing sense of smell. Her ever-sniffing nose is always hard at work solving mysteries and finding all Peterโs lost toys. But Nell has other talents too . . . When sheโs not cracking cases, Nell goes to school with Peter and listens to the children read. Books about dinosaurs, books about space and even books about dogs โ Nell loves them all! But one day Peter and Nell arrive at school to find all the books have disappeared! Who could have taken them, and why? Luckily, Detective Dog Nell, with help from the whole class, is ready to sniff out the thief! Written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by the multi-talented illustrator and print-maker Sara Ogilvie, The Detective Dog is a fast-paced celebration of books, reading, libraries and the relationship between a little boy and his rather special dog. Review: A Tail-Wagging Adventure ๐๐ถ๐ - In this heartwarming tale, we meet Detective Dog Nell, a clever canine with a knack for solving mysteries and a love for books. Together with her trusty sidekick Peter, they embark on a series of adventures around town, sniffing out clues and unraveling mysteries like missing books/stolen stories. What I love most about this book is how Julia Donaldson weaves together a captivating story with enchanting rhymes and rhythmic prose. It's just so much fun to read aloud, and the colorful illustrations by Sara Ogilvie truly bring the characters and their adventures to life. But beyond the mystery-solving fun, the book also has a heartwarming message about the joy of reading and the magic of libraries. It's a wonderful reminder of the treasures waiting to be discovered within the pages of a book and the special role that libraries play in our communities. ๐๐ถ๐ Review: Great book! - Great book for my 6 year old and 4 year old granddaughters!

You need to add this book to your collection!!
Let me just start by saying Iโve loved almost all of the Julia Donaldson books Iโve read with my son (The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, Charlie Cookโs Favorite Book, etc.), But this is my all-time favorite. As a lover of books and reading in general, the storyline for this one - along with the fun, playful pictures (and swoon-worthy illustration of the library) make this book so special and fun to read. Like in her other books, Julia Donaldson uses a great rhyme scheme to tell the story of Detective Dog Nell and her owner, Peter. The story is somewhat similar to that of the Snatchabook by Helen Docherty โ but not the same at the same time. The mystery element is there in both books, along with the disappearance of books in each story. I donโt want to give away any spoilers, so youโll just have to read it for yourself. This is one that you should definitely add to your collection! We even bought it as a Christmas present for my sonโs Kindergarten teacher! :)

wonderful language, story & drawings
my 4 year old son loves this book, and I love it, too. the wonderfully rhymed sentences are fun to read, the story is cute, and the drawings are beautiful! since the topic of the book is reading and libraries, this would be a wonderful book for a storytime at a kindergarten/daycare/library!

Just right for young dog lovers
I purchased this book for my 5 yr old grandson and he loves it so much he takes it to bed each night and carefully places it beside his bed so it's the first thing he sees every morning. I bought it to help him understand how clever and talented his new dog is and it has absolutely fulfilled this purpose.

Great story for my kids!
We love this book! Honestly, we love all of Julia Donaldsons books so this was just another great one to add to the collection. We love the subtle lessons in kindness that she incorporates into the stories...and theyโre not too long so perfect for bedtime stories.

Fantastic Children's Book
I have bought many Julia Donaldson books for my children and they have all been fantastic. This book is no exception, it's one of my favourites from her collection. Such a great story, lovely rhyming words which are easy to read and great illustrations. It is a decent sized book too, so I would recommend for toddlers aged 3+ who can stay focused for a bit longer. Lovely book!
