Columbia Women's Newton Ridge Plus Waterproof Hiking Boots

I ordered these hikers from Columbia after about 3 weeks of scouring Amazon for the right pair. I have always been very hesitant to order any kind of footwear online (I'm a see it, try it on in person first kinda shopper when it comes to clothing & footwear) as I have wider feet and seem to never have luck finding footwear that fits as it should. I've liked Columbia's products for a long time, but could never seem to get my wider feet into their footwear. However, after finding these in a brick & mortar store & falling in intense like with these hikers, I came back to Amazon to find them in an 11 WIDE (!) at super great price far less than in the retail store. With some hesitancy I decided to order these hikers & give it a try. The free return if they didn't fit tipped the scales. They arrived on time as promised and HUZZAH! actually fit my wide feet! Not only did they fit my wide feet, I experienced zero crunching of my toes (the toebox is *actually WIDE* like it should be on a wide shoe), the arch is in the right place, and I can even wear a medium to thick crew sock without feeling squeezed and still have room for my toes to move around. I *really* appreciate that the tongue of this hiker is *not* sewn all the way up to practically the top, which allows for my foot to really easily slide into this hiker without having to wrestle it on. These hikers lace up really nicely and the laces stay tied because they are rounded and not flat. In terms of weight these hikers are not at all heavy like some others I have tried so my legs and feet don't get tired. Though I haven't been in too many situations where there is a ton of water or wintry slush, so far these hikers have performed as waterproofed hikers should in this early winter season. I wore these hikers right out the box the first day for almost the whole day & didn't feel the need to "break them in" as I ahve had to do with other hiker boots. The boots are not heavily insulated, but even with a medium weight crew sock on my feet stay pretty warm but don't overheat even when I've worn them practically all day long. Speaking of crew socks, you'll want to opt in for them because I found that without them the fabric on the inside of the boot can be a little harsh on your ankle. That said, if you are on a long hike with *any* hiker boot this should be your standard dress code anyhow. Overall, really love these hikers. Delightfully surprised by them & would highly recommend. Overall, these hikers were a great find, a nice surprise in fit There could be some improvements made on arch support. While this has so far not been uncomfortable for me at all, if you have higher arches you might need an arch support insert depending on your comfort level. These hikers are not super cushy inside with any kind of memory foam but, again, even having worn them practically all day long my feet really weren't achy at all,

I bought these when they were on sale for around $50 in preparation for a 6 day trip to Iceland. I ended up wearing them every single day on my trip, and they were fantastic! While I did not test if they were truly waterproof, I did walk around in rain and mud, and my feet stayed dry. They also required minimal breaking in before wearing. I wore them on 3-4 walks around the neighborhood for around 30 minutes, and that seemed to do the trick! (The toes were the only thing that needed breaking in - when I first got them, they kind of bent in on my toes - but that was not a problem during my trip.) I wore them with Dickies socks while on my trip, and my feet were so comfortable, even after walking around 10,000+ steps every day! Plus, I think they look good, which is a plus for hiking boots!! I purchased size 8.5, and I'm typically in between 8-8.5, so I'd say they are true to size.

UPDATE: These were awesome for my hike! We had to go through puddles and even a stream during this hike and the water just rolled right off of these boots. I didn’t feel a thing, not even a temperature change. It was so cool. These boots gripped like a champ and it’s a good thing I had them because we did a fair amount of climbing too, which I wasn’t anticipating beforehand. Excellent boots! These boots look and fit great! I normally wear a size 10, so I ordered that size, but they felt tight around my toes/top of my foot, so I returned and sized up to 10.5 and they are perfect! Very comfortable and I’m excited to use them for my first hike coming up. This size happened to be on sale for $25 too so I really lucked out. Might buy another pair. They seem to be great quality and the leather looks really nice. Purple on the bottom was a nice surprise too. I will update after the hike about durability and grip.

My favorite thing was that these boots did not hurt my feet. I did not even need to break into them. They kept my feet and ankles supported through sand, grass, mud, hilly terrain, dry dirt paths. I love the look of it as well, nice and sleek. It's not super heavy but I do believe that is subjective to your preference. Scuffing isn't too bad either. I used it for a week conducting different field work but I don't have a long term (over months) review.

Wide width are an excellent fit with adequate height space for toes even with orthotics added. Insole is removable which is excellent as well. Well made and comfortable while walking. Looking forward to give them a road test.

This was an excellent purchase. The boots are very lightweight. They have great support and I felt comfortable wearing them all day. I wore them at the airport, for a 14.5 hr flight, and walking around all day in different terrains, different weathers, and two different countries. They are water resistant, versatile, and durable. I love these boots so much that I would buy them in different colors!

I’ve worn these on hiking trips in several states and countries. They are comfortable, sturdy, and kept my feet warm and dry on a wet/snowy hike. The taller height provides extra ankle stability, which I didn’t know I needed, but really appreciate now that I have it!

These fit amazing from the start! I got a half size larger than my usual size so I can wear with thick socks. I haven't worn them hiking yet but looking forward to trying them out on our Iceland trip!

My confidence was high, ordering these, based on both the construction materials and my past experience with the Columbia brand. I was not let down. Great value for the money spent. The hardware was not cheaped-out on: it is strong and won't snap when you do up your laces. The tongue would have been better with a big more width for Wide shoe wearers. Very lightweight and cushioned for support and comfort. True to colour, materials and dimensions. Today's rain is a hard, solid downpour without wind. These are serious treads that functioned well: gripped my concrete walkway, unpaved alley and paved grocery store parking lot just fine and I didnt slip on damp store tile. Avoided directly stepping in big puddles, however, to test out whether they are truly waterproof or water-resistant. I was mission-oriented and not in a position to chance that with partially submerging my feet. Arriving home, my fleeced leggings are wet and the tops of my long thermal socks, but not my feet. They are very well-made. This is an excellent purchase. For reference: I wear a Size 9.5W (Wide) and that is what I was able to order. The toebox was roomy. It feels like there is a bit of extra toeroom, but I don't mind it. Note that the last photo is of this hiking boots from above, (right), while the other item is a snowboot which wearers of this Columbia hiker might try for winter, (the Greta 2 model by KEEN).
