3.5 Hard Drive Enclosure, USB 3.0 Internal/External Hard Drive Case

Works great! I really wish I could get my hands on more. Super easy to set up and use. Cables are nice and long. I haven’t had any durability issues at all, it’s just plug and play and leave in a place. I haven’t had any compatibility issues. It connects once drive loads. I love having a power switch on it so it just doesn’t leave the hard drive running when not needed. I recommend this product!

on my old computer, I have a hard drive with just over 200GB of various saved youtube videos/movies/etc. I removed the Hard drive bay on my new PC, to make more room for cable management/burying. while I could find the thing and put it back in there, I'd also need to run another SATA cable, as my current one is used up via my new PCs built in fan hub, and two SATA SSDs. so, after a little bit of searching, I found this, and I am very pleased. I got this for about 14$ after a coupon + amazon delay delivery coupon. right now, its writing to my sata ssd at about the peak of 160-170MB per second, or just over one gigabit. while the product mentions 5 gigabit speeds, hitting those on a hard drive are basically impossible, so I don't fault the brand for the discrepancy. I am completely pleased with the speeds as it's producing, as I had to take some stuff off this drive before via flash drive. it was not fun. the process to pop out the hard drive bay was a bit finicky at first. it feels like you're gonna break it with how you have to pop open the top latch thing, but it does pop out. installing the drive is as simple as lining up the drive right, pushing it with a little force, then clamping the top over it. by the by, the USB plug is a type b to type A, if you're curious, or ever lose it. all in all, 5 stars. if you ever need to move stuff from an old drive & don't have the extra space/don't care, this is 15$ and it'll save you tons of headache

my 15 yr old laptop finally became unusable, i don't remember why. i loved everything about that old hp. but my great grandson was able to remove the hard drive and save it for me. he put my documents on a thumb drive, but later i realized i had a lot of music and photos that he didn't save for me on a thumb drive. i knew nothing about hard drive enclosures at the time, so i just held on to that drive, figuring i would go later to some computer wizard to access those files. but then i learned about these enclosures, so i decided to take a chance. i wasn't sure whether i should get a 2-1/2" or a 3-1/2" enclosure. this drive was a reasonable price, and it turns out the size is great. it didn't seem to work the first time i plugged it in, but i waited too long to try to return it. tried it again recently, did something right this time that i had not done the first time, and YAY! - I'm able to access all those files again. now that i've figured it out, it works well, it's not noisy, and it's almost like using my old hp. i am very happy with this. (it ain't easy gettin' old with the way technology is advancing these days!)

I purchased this enclosure in the hopes of remedying a problem I was having; I have a 1TB 2.5" HDD (spinning rust) that I used a simple USB3 to SATA adapter, that had a dual USB plug (supposedly for extra power?) - but it seemed like occasionally it would "drop out" and disconnect the drive. I use this drive for my backup, so if it gets disconnected, my system (Mint) is unable to remount it without unplugging and re-plugging in the USB connection (lsusb shows nothing - like the drive isn't even there any longer). So I thought that maybe the issue was not having enough power from the motherboard - so I got this enclosure, with an external supply, might solve that. So far, I like the enclosure - it was easy to install the drive and get things going; I was a bit disconcerted that the drive itself just "floats" on the connector - there's no screws or anything to keep it in place. I took a few pieces of anti-static packing foam I had, cut it down, and put it on the front, side, and top of the drive to hold it all in place when the enclosure is closed. I might later drill the case to allow the use of screws from the bottom to hold it in place, but it would be nice if this detail was corrected in some fashion (even just including some foam or something). But now I've run into another problem - I didn't notice that it had a 10-minute auto-shutdown. This is a problem when using it for backup purposes. For one thing, it doesn't automatically turn on when bringing the system up - either from power down, or out of suspend. Worse, though - it disconnects from the system (much like the other adapter I had been using - but it was doing it seemingly randomly) - and then when my auto-backup runs (every 2 hours) - the drive is no longer mounted. I plan to try adding a cron job that will automatically perform a simple task from the drive (maybe just a directory listing) every 5 minutes or so, just to keep it "alive" once mounted. I wish there were some way to disable this auto-shutoff feature, but that doesn't seem to be possible. So - one star off for a couple of minor, but still inconvenient issues. But for under $20, it's not a bad deal overall I guess.

This is so easy and functional! Previously I used an old internal CD/DVD drive and attached it with an external SATA adapter via USB. Not only is this very mobile but the extra ports on it make it almost indispensable.

I bought this enclosure to erase two NAS drives that I am retiring and preparing to sell. I could do the erasure inside my NAS unit, but for $18 or so, why risk it? It took minutes to set up, with the hardest part being figuring out how to open the plastic case. Popped my drive in and it worked immediately with my Mac. The unit came with 2 foam strips that were not explained in the included instruction sheet. I'm guessing they are for the hard drive. The bottom of the enclosure has 4 rubber feet. The included USB cable is nice, but they should consider throwing in a USB-C adapter. The power adapter works fine as well just note it's a wider wall wart so I had to make some room on my power strip for it.

At first this looked like a nice component to save my HDD that had years of data on it and let me access the data while I considered getting a new desktop computer and use my laptop for a while. The transmission rate was reasonable and it was easy to figure out how to place my ard drive inside the case. After putting the assembly together with my hard drive inside I plugged in the supplied cables (usb 3.0 cable) and (DC5.5 mm plug with cable) into the case. Then I connected the cable to the laptop port and plugged in the power adapter to a 110V outlet. Lastly I turned on the device with the Power Switch on the case. Everything seemed to work well. Then a few days later I got a screen message of hard drive failure. I removed the powere adapter and unplugged the usb cable and tried it on another laptop. I got the same message. So after diconnecting power again I opened the case. It seems like the design of the case can allow the hard drive to slide away from the connector partially. In my opinion this caused a power interuption. I DO NOT RECOMMEND using this case. A case that is vertical so that by at least gravity the connection is maintained would be better, such as a StarTech or Inland docking station would be better. Alternatively if the case could be made so that the HDD could be secured from sliding in the case, that might solve the problem. I think I have lost the data - do not use this.
