The adjusting width thing does not work
the hot wire cutter works well, but the adjustable thing is broken,, no easy to use when cutting long items, my hands are shaky so it was even worse but otherwise ok.. for the price, its good

Cheap tacky
Cheap, tacky. The stopper bar doesn't stay in place. There is a lip just before the hotwire unit which is a pain Build quality is at best poor blown plastic base. However after a few end user modifications it is now more use able. For what I need it for and the amount of times it will be used it's ok If you're going be using this more often then just don't buy it If you do then you'll end up buying a better one anyway.

It cuts polystyrene easily.
The movable guide does not work very well. It doesn't lock well and pops out.

Faulty
Stopped working after two days of use.

Very poor quality item.
The product is flimsy and poorly made. The guard to set the with of the foam for cutting does not lock into place, in short the item is not fit for purpose.

Great little hot wire cutter let down slightly by a poor cutting guide
Very easy to set up and comes with plenty of wire in case it breaks. Got a shock when I turned it on as the cutting wire literally gets red hot and glows within a few seconds. Have never used one before and just assumed it would get hot like a soldering iron but not red hot! Anyway it works incredibly well, cutting through foam and polystyrene like butter. You really do need to use it in a well ventilated room though as it produces a lot of very unpleasant smoke and fumes as it melts stuff which can't be good for you to inhale. The cutting guide is a bit poor which is a shame - it's all made of plastic and doesn't lock securely in place very well. With a bit of trial and error you can get it to stay in one place so long as you don't lean against it too heavily. Thankfully the material you're working with is really light so that helps. Other than that it's a great tool and makes light work of cutting little blocks of foam for my packing needs. If the guide had been better it would have got 5 stars.

No good for accurate work
On the plus side this gets hot very quickly and can cut EPE in five seconds from power on. Equally, when the power is cut it drops to a non-cutting temperature within a few seconds making it easy to store away. The power adapter has a good long lead, so should accomodate a place on your work bench even if it is some distance from the plug. It comes with plenty of wire on the spindle. The downsides, well the instructions are rubbish. There isn't much to it (see photographs) so most of it can be done on instinct and common sense. However, try as I might, I could not get the ruler guide to fit snugly in the main body and my conclusion is that it is just badly designed. Not having any confidence in the ruler means you are not going to be doing an intricate work with this. So, it's fast and effective when it comes to cutting big chunks of foam to fit a packaging solution but if you were hoping to do something a little more creative (I wanted a foam insert for a storage space in the boot of my car) then it wont be as accurate as you might want. Shoudl be better for just under thirty quid.
