## Description

'Dostoyevsky's finest masterpiece' John Bayley Dostoyevsky's great novel of damnation and redemption evokes a world where the lines between innocence and corruption, good and evil, blur. It tells the story of Raskolnikov, a destitute and desperate former student, who wanders through the slums of St Petersburg and commits a random murder without remorse or regret. He imagines himself to be beyond conventional moral laws. But as he embarks on a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a police investigator, Raskolnikov is pursued by the growing voice of his conscience and finds the noose of his own guilt tightening around his neck. Translated with an Introduction and notes by DAVID McDUFF

Review: Love it!!! - Great book! it's in good condition, just what I wanted !!
Review: “A Classical Beauty to fall in love with” - I have been an avid classic connoisseur. This novel is what I call a classic in its truest senses. It takes you into the depths of psyche and hearts of a thinking but reluctant criminal named Mr. Raskolnikov. In his loneliness he plots and executes a crime that he thought would make a positive change on the health of the society but it was a flawed thinking process and this is the whole synopsis of Mr. Raskolnikov’s crime and his punishment. This book has been divided into six parts and each part holds six or seven chapters on average. The unique literary skill of Fyodor Dostoyevsky keeps you guessing for what’s next through entire journey. At times, a new reader might feel bored but for a true classic loving reader each chapter brings a certain emotion through very slow burning. You feel elated in a few, you feel intrigued, you feel sad, you feel love and what not! I envied the friendship and family and love Raskolnikov got from his friend, mother & sister and his love interest. It was the inner world of himself that was full of turmoil and his heart was in turmoil throughout. This “Crime & Punishment” journey works for him and of course for reader to look upon the possibility of life in the depths of despair and darkness of poverty. The supporting characters are also interesting and hold importance of their own in this world of the novel. The character of Dunia and Razhumihin and Sonya are lovely and you’ll fall in love with them. On the other hand, the ever suspecting and always careful Pyotr Petrovich, the detective has his own special ways for his job of investigation. This novel is a thing of beauty and I fell in love with it. For a long novel you need patience and that’s the key to dig deeper and dive deeper to fetch the diamonds and the Pearls from the womb of earth and the oceans, Just in case if you needed cautionary advices. The edition of the book is very detailed and has so many notes to refer to and the translator’s note is also full of noteworthy aspects, it keeps you guided, about Fyodor Dostoyevsky and his world where he was writing the epics like “Crime and Punishment”, “Brothers Karmazov”, “The Idiot”. That’s enriching too. It’s a thing to go for and keep in your home library.

Crime and Punishment is a psychological masterpiece that dives deep into Raskolnikov’s intense self-despair and existential isolation with the consequences of his own ideas and actions ✌
