It has a fairly long throw ( because it's largish ) and at the beginning of a stroke the pulling energy is fairly low. To overcome this, you can do what I did and drive it with two supplies coupled by a diode one of the supplies is about 60V and charges a capacitor through a resistor, this one deliveres the higher voltage stored in the capacitor which then quickly dies down to almost nothing on it's own but then the other supply through a diode, kicks in and supplies the remaining bulk current to pull and hold the piston in.
