Being a new quilter, I already had the 6 x 24 size, but needed something smaller as the 6 x 24 was sometimes to big and clumsy for all your cutting. I got my second ruler at the the 6 x 12 size thinking it would be fine, but it ended up being too short. The 6 x 18 is the perfect size as that extra 6 inches makes all the difference in having the proper length to cut folded yardage along with everything else. The 6x12 is nice for real small cutting jobs, but not practical as you can use the 6x18 for the same cutting.
