Yeah, I read the one and two star whines - mostly about this being some kind of political message, or social justice complaint. Well, i didn't see this movie that way at all. It was a story. Totally fiction - yes. therefore, quite unreal - yes. But it was entertaining, enjoyable, and it did portray young people, and at least many of the adults who influenced their lives as good people, caring people. and people that they respected. they didn't have sex every ten minutes, were not strung out on drugs, not a single murder in the movie, and the f word did not appear anywhere in the movie until the last 30 seconds. Maybe, that makes it unreal, and unbelievable. Yeah, maybe so. But just think about how wonderful our world would be if these kids were real - and that is why I enjoyed watching it so much. I loved it. I did not give it 5 stars because it was so obviously trite in some parts. But - watch it, relax - don't look for a political message or a social justice argument. Just enjoy these lovely young people, the rural scenery around this tiny little town, the old "farts" kind of groaning out their guidance to these kids - and... the respect they get from these kids. a fairy tale? can't be our America? hm. maybe. but how wonderful if it were true? I had struggles and pain in my childhood in a small farming community - but this movie made me see how much good was there - and I did not see it then, and if I could have - the pain would have been so much less. ### ⭐⭐ So much stuff going nowhere. *by M***D on Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2019* I wasn't really thinking of leaving a review until the last dialog of the movie. I see what the writers were trying to do. Make the present big corporations to bad guys because its easy and if your not careful, forget ALL the stuff from the past. Like segregation and jim crow. Good 'ole boy cops and sheriffs, blind eyes to battery and bullying, domestic assault, because its a "family" matter, and a thousand other evils overlooked by "good" folk. Its just another flawed premise that the past is better than the present. People and things change, get over it already.As for the production of the movie, the camera and visuals were good enough to make me keep watching but that's about it. NOT a movie you'll want to watch more than once. As phony as the lines felt, I never disliked any of the delivery. Not blow away either though. Some of the acting was forced and the writing, well.... I guess "pie in the sky" influenced and not very realistic. But the plot was really contrived and forced and just felt fake. In all there was a lot of stuff going on that really led nowhere and then abruptly ends. Simple stupid plot with decent production that in the end says nothing we haven't already heard and discounted. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful *by C***L on Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2019* What a terrific movie, solid in every aspect. Yes, the movie is slow; I think it wants to travel at the pace of small-town life. The production values are very good. The acting was, almost across the board, outstanding. The score was very nice.There’s a sense of belonging here, a sense that what is now will not always be, but it will be worth remembering and sharing with our children and grandchildren. There is a gentle lament over the demise of small-town values and of the single-family farm which is being (has been) gobbled up by big conglomerates. I wonder how many know that the starting dilemma, the small farmer being sued to penury by a huge, tyrannical, multinational entity, has happened, and not just once. I don’t know if I can name that entity here, and perhaps it isn’t appropriate. Anyway, I found the movie wholly refreshing and I found myself both happy and sad as I remembered my own upbringing.
