The coffee needs to be very course for drip coffee. If it is too fine it clogs the holes, causing blockage which could be why it takes so long. **Q: When placed on top of a coffee cup, the water doesn't drip out of the sides and all over the counter?** A: Most of the coffee pour hugs the cone. Some of the early part of the pour can go straight thru and end up on the stand rather than in the cup. The stand is tapered in the wrong direction to direct all of the pour to the cup. It would work better if the stand was concave but then it wouldn't sit on a table. It works well for the intended purpose and depends on the skill of the operator.. This is a hobby for coffee aficionados. **Q: I have always used a drip coffee maker but my coffee is never hot enough. Thinking i can boil water in electric kettle first and then pour over?** A: I always boil the kettle, and then use water in the kettle in my cup, swooshing it around for 30 seconds to get my cup hot inside. Then I do the pour over coffee into the warm cup. **Q: Can this work with say a Zojirushi travel mug with a 1.75"- 2" diameter mouth??** A: Shouldn't be an issue. The circular cutout in the dripper base is about 2". If the mug opening is closer to 1.75" than 2" you may get some dripping on the outside of your mug. In a worst case you can always remove the dripper from the base and let it sit inside the mouth of your mug.
