The first one I bought is still in perfect condition after ten years. This type of stand is essential for those 'odd' shaped basses/guitars ie, Thunderbird, Jazz etc as the guitar hangs from the headstock rather than the base of the guitar resting on a platform. I treated myself to a new Jazz bass, so needed another stand, and I didn't even consider any other brand. The Hercules (as mentioned) supports the guitar from the headstock, it also has a great system that closes two little bars/gates across the headstock when you hang the guitar on it which prevents it from being knocked off the stand. They also fold up nicely into a small manageable size. They are also can be adjusted to a good height and will easily accommodate my Thunderbird bass which is VERY long. All is good now and the Plus models are much improved. **Q: Does this model have the spring grip that is described as defective?** A: Both of my stands have “spring grip” and I’ve never had a problem with mine. **Q: I bought one from guitar center, and it has the hercules box which is tightly packed.
