A solid drive - if you get the right one

Overall, the ADATA ASX8200NP 480 GB is a solid SSD that matches advertised performance. However, I had terrible experiences with the first drive that I received, which ADATA labelled as V5.0 on the box. This drive came boxed in all black packaging.Firstly, I bought the drive as new, but it was used. This only became apparent when I ran a Windows 10 installer to discover that the drive had already been partitioned for Windows. Upon booting I ran HWiNFO which determined that over 500 GB had already been read from and written to the drive. Moreover, the drive started taking up to twenty seconds to boot to the BIOS and subsequently started occasionally BSODing with the error code DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION when I woke my device from sleep. This then started happening every time I woke my device.ADATA list no firmware updates on their website and I had tried both re-installing Windows and extensive troubleshooting, so I sent the drive back. The replacement I received came packaged in a different box. This new box had red edging and carried the model number V6.0 on it. This new drive works flawlessly and has none of the same issues that the V5.0 drive had.I cannot guarantee that V5.0 drives all have this problem but ADATA/Amazon are sending out different versions of supposedly the same SSD.In short, the ADATA ASX8200NP 480 GB is an affordable option compared to the considerably more expensive alternatives from Samsung and WD, but double check the version you receive.

    Incompatibility issues, or faulty.

*by B***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2018*

I recently put together a new system and was looking for my first ever M.2 nvme drive. I almost purchased the Samsung 970 Evo, but reviews on this ADATA price were great so it seemed like fantastic value for money.I added it to my build and initial impressions were very positive. Windows installed without issue and the drive is very fast. However I quickly ran into problems.I paired this drive with an Asus ROG Strix B450-F gaming motherboard. Sometimes when switching the system on, it would just fail to see this M.2 drive was connected, with the only solution being to remove it from the system entirely and plug it back in again. Then on the next cold start it would lose sight again. I tried the following fixes with no success:Updated the BIOS to the latest versionTried the m.2 drive in both slotsRemoved all SATA drivesTried SATA drives in all 6 portsDisabled CSM and re-installed WindowsIn the end I was left with no alternative but to RMA the drive back to Amazon for a refund. I then opted for the Samsung 970 Evo I almost purchased in the first place, which seems to work perfectly. So whilst this drive is probably fine, and when it worked was very quick, on a personal use basis I can’t really recommend it. It could have been an individual broken drive, or some sort of compatibility issue with that model of Asus board, but it’s worth being aware before you pull the trigger to make the purchase.

### ⭐⭐⭐

This is not the pro version

*by J***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2019*

The specs on this page at the top are wrong. I let them know when I sent it back, I messaged Amazon using the link on this page for such things but it's still described as pro with the specs of the pro version. This the older ssd which is probably perfectly fine but it is slower and there are some significant firmware differences between the two.Pro is 512gb, the older non pro version is 480gb.
