5 stars. Faster terminations, fewer re-dos,
Bought the Cable Matters Punch Down Tool (110 & 66 blade) for keystone/RJ45 terminations because I’m tired of doing the “jam it in with something that definitely isn’t a punch tool” routine and then acting surprised when the cable tests like a haunted house. This thing is proper. Solid in the hand, clean punch, trims nicely, and the blades actually do what they’re meant to do without you having to lean on it like you’re trying to crack a walnut. The 110/66 options are handy too — feels like you’ve got the right tool for the job instead of improvising with a screwdriver and pure hope. Bonus: it makes you look very professional while you’re still internally chanting “please be T568B… please be T568B…” 5 stars. Faster terminations, fewer re-dos, and my network cabinet swearing has dropped dramatically.

proper tidy bit of kit for the home lab
running cat6a through the house for 10 gbe and this little Cable Matters punch-down saved my thumbs from the £3 ebay rubbish that snaps after 3 terminations. the 110 blade seats solid on krone & leviton blocks – crisp click, clean cut every time, no half-punched pairs. flipped the reversible head to 66 for the ancient phone patch panel in the loft and it handled that too. spring tension is spot-on, not too stiff like the fluke ones that give you rsi, and the blade storage in the handle means i didn’t lose the spare in the van (miracle). used it on 50+ drops now – still sharp, still comfy. if you’re wiring more than a couple sockets, bin the freebie tool and get this.

No turning back - SUPERB tool!
I have been using cheap punchdown tools for years, and did not realise how poorly they performed. I dropped one the other day, and it fell to pieces. So I decided to pay more and get so-called professional quality. VERY GLAD I DID. From the moment you feel this very solid tool, you know its special. Using it is a dream. It actually saves time too, because the quality is such that it correctly punches down every time. Don't use cheaper tools. Use this and there will be no turning back! :-)

A bit rubbish
This punch is a bit rubbish. I really struggled with it, trying various techniques for using it, and found I was better off just using a cheap little plastic thing that I've had lying at the bottom of my tool bag for years. It comes with two different heads and a place to store the alternate one. It always falls out of this slot, no matter what you do, so you're going to lose it within a few days. The most useful feature for me has been the little hook, which is handy for pulling Cat6 cables back out of the connectors after the punch has failed to push them in properly.

Takes a little getting used to
If you’re used to using the “normal” style of punch down tool with the little scissor snips built in, then this might take a little while to get used to. The cutter is a knife on the side of the tool and works best if you punch down at a slight (5° of centre) angle towards the blade. The insertion tool is also reversible without a cutter on the other side if you prefer to use flush cutters after punching everything down. The tool also has two strength settings, the standard setting works for 99% of the time, but have used the stronger setting on some stubborn badly formed (cheap) patch panels.
